heck, based on much of what I have read about panetta’s disagreements with obama, panetta comes out looking like an american compared to the white house.

does make me wonder why he (or petraeus) would be given a position anywhere.

I apologize for the graphic image, but what’s Freeper to do?

True, has has actually exceeded expectations in his current role. Of course, exceptions were extremely low to begin with. I don’t see him at Defense, though.

Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of allied forces in Afghanistan, is under consideration to become the next CIA director, according to a report.

A man who, just yesterday, expressed his open contempt for the Bill of Rights will run the CIA.

Remember when leftists were enraged by the Patriot Act? Now, they'll embrace big-eared government on every level.

When you consider that the next SecDef is going to have his hands full codifying the terms under which gays may openly serve, Panetta is probably the better pick from Obama’s standpoint. Petreaus, or any uniformed officer, might throw sand in the gears.

Under the proposed plan, CIA Director Leon Panetta could also move over to the Pentagon to serve as the next Defense secretary.

Peter Principle Politics.

President Obama handed General Petraeus a no-win situation in Afghanistan. It's a sure bet that Obama will eventually pull our troops out. As frustrating as the Afghanistan mission must be, I'm sure General Petraeus would rather not have to oversee a Vietnam-like withdrawal from that God-forsaken hell-hole. However, I have my doubts that he would prefer working under Obama in Washington, even as CIA Director, when he would have many other opportunities to pursue after he retires from the military. Petraeus could very likely make a very nice living just from speeches and books. Petraeus doesn't need Obama - but Obama needs Peteaeus.

Leon Panetta as Defense Secretary would be disastrous for the military but then, the repeal of DADT will do heavy damage to military morale and cohesion so Panetta will fit right into his role to help the erosion of the greatest fighting force on earth, just as Obama has planned.

Speaking of remember when - remember when, not that long ago, many (including some FReepers here) were wanting to see Petraeus run for President?

I actually don't remember it, but I don't doubt it either.

People champion others for president, before they really know anything about them. Patraeus seems a capable military man, but I have no desire to see him with power domestically.

put the military guy with no spy background in charge of CIA, not Dept. of Defense.

put the CIA guy with no spy background and no military background in charge of Dept of Defense, as opposed to sending him home.

priceless.

General Betray-us has now become a Mulim-appeasing standard of political correctness. That is why he is now being considered by Obama for CIA.

“Report: Petraeus ‘seriously considered’ for CIA director”

It would be the first time any appointment got “serious consideration” since the clueless clown was elected.

Just heard that this is serious. Now that Petraeus has become so PC, I can’t stand him! He should just do his job - kill the enemy - and stay out of the political/PC garbage.
