The president seems to have forgotten that he got shellacked in November, and fits of pique aren't exactly leadership.
What part of "I won. You Lost" does he not remember?
The Speaker will have to patiently explain to the American people confronting closed parks and museums next week that President Obama refuses to negotiate and is willing to sacrifice everyone's convenience for the benefit of Planned Parenthood, the taxpayer subsidy for NPR and PBS, EPA's carbon regs and the continued jam down of Obamacare.

Link is to a NYT article stating that Obama rejected the short-term stopgap proposal. Looks like he really wants to shut down the government...

...President Obama refuses to negotiate and is willing to sacrifice everyone's convenience for the benefit of Planned Parenthood...Oh, it wasn't about Planned Parenthood. Obama would have balked over cutting fertilizer for park lawns if he couldn't find anything else. He and the other Democrats want the govt shut down, because they're sure they can convince the American public that it's all the fault of the Republicans, and that the Democrats were heroically struggling to keep those govt checks coming to poor women, children, and the elderly. It's their only chance to avoid the cuts that Paul Ryan and the Republicans recognize have to be made.
To: Red Steel
Oh no no no, according to the LA Times (hehe), "Obama said Democrats have already agreed to cuts well beyond the GOP's initial proposal, but that he was nonetheless committed to further negotiations to reach a final deal to fund government operations through the end of the fiscal year.
"Nobody gets 100% of what they want, and we have more than met the Republicans halfway at this point," he said. "We are now closer than we have ever been to get an agreement. There's no reason why we should not get an agreement."
Poor Barry, sounds like he's about to take his toys and go home to pout.

If the American public were well informed I would be shouting shut it down. However, they need to be convinced that blame is on their own representatives and elected (?) president (?).
To: Red Steel
Again there is the presumption that a government ‘shutdown’ is a bad thing and someone must be blamed.

Cut off the Power and Water. No fuel for AF 1. No parties and no Greens Fees.

“Poor Barry, sounds like he’s about to take his toys and go home...”
If only. /sigh.../

That’s true.
But I sense fear in their ranks (the Repubs have their own issues, of course). This doesn’t seem like the Dems are playing a confident game of chess.
And I think Hewitt’s idea of triangulating them is sound- sooner or later, something is going to have to give in terms of cuts.

Wouldn’t it mean that Obama cannot use government air planes if he lets the government be shut down..He has a lot of campaign stops scheduled this Month and also his vacation to England..Take his toys away and see how long he wants it to be shut down..We will be paying for those campaign trips with our money to use for gas for Air Force One and that is not right.. Also remember the wife Michelle and his campaign crew they will use our Air Planes and fuel so let make them pay for ever cent..obama mentor Soros can pay for the king and his black queens trips not us..

I disagree. I don’t think Obama can stand the thought of not having a baby slaughter factory going full blast.

Cut off funding to members of ME-chelle’s personal staff who do everything for her but wipe her butt.

Yeah, I bet he won’t be able to party that hard back in Kenya. But his dollars will go further there.

Has 0bama saved Boehner from Boehner? I was afraid that Boehner was going to cave in and compromise.
To: Qbert
If they shut down the government, Obama will simply go on vacation until they get his speech written and posted in his monitor.
