State police are investigating an apparent suicide after a body was found at Camp Good News in Sandwich the same Cape Cod camp where U.S. Sen. Scott Brown said he was molested as a boy.
The dead man, who has not yet been publicly identified, apparently took his own life with a gunshot to the head and was found in his car just outside the camp, according to a law enforcement source. A state police spokesman confirmed to the Herald today they are treating the death as a suicide.
The 43-year-old man left a couple of notes indicating he was going to take his own life. The notes indicated that he was tired of being accused of molestation and also said goodbyes to loved ones, the source said.
Local and state police descended on the camp earlier this morning, according to the Cape Cod Times. A vehicle with a hearse license plate arrived at the camp at about 11:40 a.m. Officials on the scene are not providing any details.
The Cape Cod Times this morning reported that an employee of Camp Good News who is being investigated for molesting a child there 26 years ago will remain on the job, at least for now, a camp official said yesterday.
The Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael OKeefe this week launched an investigation into an allegation that a former 10-year-old camper was repeatedly molested at Camp Good News by an employee who still works there, attorney Mitchell Garabedian, who represents the camper, now a 36-year-old man, told the Times.
The camp has been in the news since Brown revealed this winter in his memoir Against All Odds that a camp counselor on the Cape molested him in the 1970s. Officials at Camp Good News confirmed the senator had gone there as a kid and they apologized for the attack on him.
OKeefes office began a probe into the allegations in Browns book but the investigation has been dropped and Brown has declined to pursue any charges. A spokeswoman for Brown declined to comment today and said the senator would have nothing to say on the matter.
Brown still not willing to name his alleged abuser. This could sink his re-election hopes, even if it was looking good for him before.
In any other state this RINO would not be reelected to fill that tainted seat of the damned.
Camp Good News ?
ironic.
In the state where former Bernard Cardinal “Bunny” Law brushed priest sexual abuse under the rug and was rewarded with a gig at a very, very nice church in the Vatican.
At this point I think I’d prefer to have Martha Coakley as senator.
What was Brown position on the burning of the koran. Is he one of those who accuse the Pastor of having blood on his hand for his speech?
Very sad if the guy really was innocent. What a horrible charge to have to face. Even if guilt wasn’t proven in court, his reputation would have been forever ruined.
If he was guilty, his suicide just makes him all the more cowardly and he’s answering for his crimes in the afterlife.
That’s my first thought. The guy is 43, too young to have bothered with Scott.
If the guy was truly guilty, good. If he wasn’t, this is REAL bad. This state has a really really bad track record of falsely accusing people, throwing them in jail and then refusing to reopen the case (Fells Acres anyone?)
Brown is a squishy middle-of-the-roader, Marsha Chokely is a left wing hack. Chokely is clearly a moron, even worse than the disappointing Brown, but she’s a moron who has hitched her political career to the dreadful Obama bandwagon.
I think Brown added that idiotic detail to his lame boring biography to try to increase sales. (Word is that it’s selling worse than Coupe Deval’s.) Every American (or other male) got groped by a camp counseler or phys-ed teacher or barber at some point in his adolscence, which is why most normal men are queer adverse.
He should have just got a law degree and judgeship appointment. Then things would have worked out better for him. Knowing this state, it is entirely possible he was simply an innocent man being blamed for crimes committed by connected peoples... But so it goes, and now know one will ever know or care here. Just feel safe sending your kids to camp, the bad man is gone.
I hope Brown got screwed as good back then as he is screwing the state now.
15,000 copies—and yes I did buy one.
Yeah, I got groped at a college party once but you don’t see me writing a book about it or blabbing about it on every radio show in MA.
Even many of our “conservative” politicians put the blame of the killings in Afghanistan on the Florida pastor who burned the Koran. Bunch of invertabrates!
Do these people blame the murderers or the preacher for the killings? Have we already given in to Muslim blackmail?
This idiocy makes one so pissed off that it takes the burning of a Koran just to cool off.
Perhaps that was the incentive? Or the individual had separate "issues"
that had nothing to do with child abuse?
What do you expect from Assachusetts? A Mark Rubio or Rand Paul?
Wake up to reality, please.
“eah, I got groped at a college party once “
Being groped at a college party is not comparable to being sexually molested as a child.
>At this point I think Id prefer to have Martha Coakley as senator.<
What’s the difference?

Ah. . .no.
You are speaking for yourself, not for EVERY man.
You are claiming 100% molestation rate? We are not the mid-east and we are not muslime.
Perhaps you have issues. Not insulting you, just thinking perhaps you experienced such a molestation and are now suffering for it, projecting your experience onto “every” male out there, just so you don't feel alone.
Just a thought.
I thought it was just us girls who got groped. ;-)
I've given up on MA politics. Brown is as bad as Coakley and Capuano is worse than any of them.
