Are Japanese Elite Hiding A ‘Weapons Program’ Inside Fukushima?
New America Media ^ | 4/6/2011 | Yoichi Shimatsu

April 7, 2011: Yoichi Shimatsu / New America Media News Analysis – April 6, 2011

Confused and often conflicting reports out of Fukushima 1 nuclear plant cannot be solely the result of tsunami-caused breakdowns, bungling or miscommunication. Inexplicable delays and half-baked explanations from Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) seem to be driven by some unspoken factor.

The smoke and mirrors at Fukushima 1 seem to obscure a steady purpose, an iron will and a grim task unknown to outsiders. The most logical explanation: The nuclear industry and government agencies are scrambling to prevent the discovery of atomic-bomb research facilities hidden inside Japan’s civilian nuclear power plants.

A secret nuclear weapons program is a ghost in the machine, detectable only when the system of information control momentarily lapses or breaks down. A close look must be taken at the gap between the official account and unexpected events.

Sounds like the title of a Robert Ludlum novel.

I’ve read in the past that Japan essentially has all the components for nuclear weapons. They just do not assemble them so they can claim they are not a nuclear power, but if push comes to shove, they could have nuclear weapons in a matter of weeks.

It is sort of an open secret that the Japanese are a defacto nuclear power with a capable navy, a good aerospace/rocketry infrastructure, and extensive nuclear program.

The ‘fallout’ so to speak of any revelation of a program at Fukushima would primarily be domestic and anything from the international community would strictly be pro forma.

It would be like Israel coming out and declaring it has nukes. Some noise would be made but everyone serious already knew about it.

The author is an "environmental writer". It shows. He seems to be under the impression that building a nuclear weapon is difficult. It isn't, at least it isn't for a country like Japan - one that is arguably the most advanced technological country on the planet.

The only difficulty Japan would have constructing a weapon is the same difficulty anyone has - the fuel. And, you wouldn't reprocess fuel right next to, or inside a nuclear plant - the same plant that International inspectors visit, all the time.

Japan wouldn't need to "research" anything to build the bomb. They are, as the saying goes, only a screwdriver's turn away from one, right now.

I think we need to send Obama and Pelosi and Reid over to the plant to verify that there are no nuclear weapons being built.

This is written as if the writer did not understand Japanese culture, OR the situation at the plant. They nearly had 3 full meltdowns on their hands, along with two dry open-air fuel ponds. I think dealing with that is the simplest explanation for most of the "confusion".

the discovery of atomic-bomb research facilities hidden inside Japan’s civilian nuclear power plants.

Why would they want to do that? The knowledge for making a Atomic Bomb can be easily picked up from the public library. The technology is over 60 years old.

Now they might be researching Nuclear weapons but that is not the same thing.

Ah... I confused them with “new american”... which is the JBS.

But something doesn’t quite look right about this site, either. Can’t quite put my finger on it. “Ethnic” news? Hmmm...
