My own personal experience with such events in nature was a dog who nursed some newborn kittens (until they were “weened”) that she - the dog - rescued after the kittens’ mother was run over by a car.
She raised them as if they were her own pups, and they responded to her as though she was their natural mother.
At least they were two mammals.
These are two different divisions on the Animal Kingdom............
