The oft-overlooked (and somewhat forgotten) role of Andy Griffith in "A Face in the Crowd" paved the way for Howard Beale's unhinged character in "Network". There are many superb moment in Elia Kazan's film that parallel what Lumet would later do such as this VitaJex snippet.

I don’t really see a similarity between Griffith’s grifter character and Beale. Beale wasn’t a grifter, was he?
