Boehner-Obama Deal Permits Funding for Group That Does 910 Abortions Per Day
CNSNews ^ | April 9, 2011 | Terence P. Jeffrey

(CNSNews.com) - The deal on federal spending that House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) cut with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) and President Barack Obama late Friday night permits federal funding to continue for Planned Parenthood, a group that does an average of 910 abortions per day.

The Boehner-Obama deal includes a provision for a symbolic vote in the U.S. Senate on a stand-alone bill that would specifically prohibit federal funding of Planned Parenthood. Shortly after the deal was sealed, however, both the New York Times and the Associated Press reported that this stand-alone Planned Parenthood defunding measure was certain to lose in the Senate.

"The abortion opponents lost on their effort to restrict money going to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers as part of the budget deal,” the Times reported. “But they succeeded in winning agreement for a separate vote on that issue next week--Senate Democrats are sure to defeat it--and in keeping in the budget deal a provision that would restrict abortion financing in Washington."

"They also sidetracked their demand to deny federal funds to Planned Parenthood,” reported the Associated Press. “Under the accord, the issue will come to a vote in the Senate under terms guaranteed to end in its defeat."

Why is the Planned Parenthood defunding measure certain to lose as a stand-alone bill in the Senate? A congressional source tells CNSNews.com that under the deal struck last night, the normal Senate filibuster rule will still apply to the Planned Parenthood defunding bill. Unless 60 senators support a procedural measure to close debate on the bill and bring it up for a final vote on whether to actually pass it or not, it will be defeated—even if it could win 51 votes on final passage.

In February, the House voted 240-185 to approve an amendment to a bill to fund the federal government for the remainder of this fiscal that would have specifically prohibited funding of Planned Parenthood—but, in negotiations, Speaker Boehner conceded to Democratic demands that this amendment not be included in the final spending deal.

Among the things the House Republican leadership gave up last night on the Planned Parenthood funding question is the leverage they might have had over opponents of the provision had they forced them to choose whether or not they were willing to shutdown other government programs just to insure that the nation’s largest abortion provider continued to be funded by U.S. taxpayers.

Another thing they lost is that in voting for the short-term government funding bill that passed the House early Saturday morning and for the longer-term bill that will come up next week, Republicans will be voting for a federal spending law that permits federal tax dollars to go to the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Members who vote for these spending bills will be saying there were other things they achieved by voting for them that were more important to them than defunding an organization that terminates an average of 910 human lives per day.

According to a fact sheet released by Planned Parenthood last month, the group did 332,278 abortions in 2009. That equals an average of 910 abortions per day—or about 38 per hour, or one every 95 seconds.

Planned Parenthood’s most recent annual report, meanwhile, says that the group received $363.2 million in government grants and contracts in its fiscal year that ended in June 2009. Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Tait Sye recently told Bloomberg Businessweek that 90 percent of that $363.2 million came directly from the federal government or from Medicaid, a federal-state program. Thus, Planned Parenthood received about $326.88 million from federal programs in 2009.

Though the hundreds of millions in federal tax dollars Planned Parenthood receives annually theoretically are not supposed to be used to pay for the hundreds of thousands of abortions the group does each year, the fact remains that the approximately $326.88 million Planned Parenthood received from federal programs in 2009 equaled about $932 per abortion it performed.

If Planned Parenthood in 2011 maintains its self-reported 2009 pace of 910 abortion per day, it can be expected to terminate 5,460 lives in the six days from Saturday to Thursday, when the government will be operating under the short-term funding bill passed this morning and before it is expected to take up the longer-term funding bill at the heart of the Boehner-Obama deal cut late Friday night.

The Boehner-Obama deal that the House is now set to vote on by Thursday will cover federal spending for the 170 days that will remain in the fiscal year as of that point. At its 2009 pace of 910 abortions per day, Planned Parenthood would terminate 154,700 lives via abortion during those 170 days.

The upcoming Senate vote for the stand alone bill is a sham that let Boehner off the hook, he'd better stand fast on the defunding in the new budget.

910 abortions a day , but they put out all this Bullsh!t about how many Mammograms they do and about how that is their major job saving women from cancer.

They sure don’t do 910 Mammograms a day.

Certainly their main objective is as an abortion Mill. Killing murdering slaughtering, and friggin lying is their major function, and the Congress is right there with them. Democrats who vote for it and Republicans who’s major function is to fool us into thinking they are going to do something about. Eff them all.

Thanks for nothing , Bend Over Boehner.

Boehner is a SOCIALIST first and foremost, so I am not surprised by the outcome.

They could have stopped Obamacare had they wanted to, but they didn’t.

They will never defund or repeal Obama’s socialist agenda, but will do what it takes to move it forward.

Busted: Planned Parenthood Caught In Mammogram Lie
By takkat– March 30, 2011

Live Action, the organization that has documented many cases of deception and illegal activity by Planned Parenthood, has released a new video today. In this latest bombshell, Live Action demonstrates that Planned Parenthood does NOT, in fact, provide mammograms. This is directly in conflict with the talking points of those who want to keep funding Planned Parenthood with our tax dollars. It also catches the CEO of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, in a flat out lie.

In the tapes, a Live Action actor calls 30 Planned Parenthood clinics in 27 different states, inquiring about mammograms at Planned Parenthood. Every Planned Parenthood, without exception, tells her she will have to go elsewhere for a mammogram, and many clinics admit that no Planned Parenthood clinics provide this breast cancer screening procedure. “We don’t provide those services whatsoever,” admits a staffer at Planned Parenthood of Arizona. Planned Parenthood’s Comprehensive Health Center clinic in Overland Park, KS explains to the caller, “We actually don’t have a, um, mammogram machine, at our clinics.”

The Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life advocate, Abby Johnson, notes that the video helps to debunk the myth that Planned Parenthood provides critical services that would be unavailable to the poor should their taxpayer funding be pulled.

Former Planned Parenthood Director Abby Johnson notes that the recordings demonstrate Planned Parenthood is not a comprehensive health care provider. “For so long PP has touted that they are a provider of mammogram services. This is just one of the lies that PP uses to draw people into their clinics. PP is not able to provide quality services on their own, so they are forced to lie to the public about services they don’t provide–and mammograms are just one of those services.”

I will accept the compliment, however, if you read posts on FR many say he caved or the leadership has no spine, balls or whatever.

When as you already know they are really just socialists too.

“The upcoming Senate vote for the stand alone bill is a sham that let Boehner off the hook”

Practically every bill that Boehner has been involved with this year has been a sham, when you reflect on it.

This was their one chance to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood, and they blew it.

There isn’t a chance in hell that a separate bill will be passed. Even if the Senate caves, which is unlikely, Obama will veto it.

Obama is the guy who voted three times as a state legislator to kill babies who are born alive. He wouldn’t hesitate for an instant to veto any bill to defund PP.

And Boehner certainly knows it. Thanks, you bloody-handed jerk, but this little “symbolic” measure will not save your sorry *ss from getting the boot in the next election.

Cry me a river!

Uh, just to point out .... Planned Parenthood's abortion business makes a serious profit for them. The money at issue in this Congressional debate would not make a dent in the number of abortions they perform.

The article makes it sound like cutting the funding, would decrease the number of abortions PP performs. But that's simply not the case.

I think we all know here that PP wouldn’t go out of the abortion business if taxpayer funds are cut off.

People are becoming aware of this issue. Yesterday when I checked google trends “Planned parenthood” was high up, as was “government shutdown”.

I hate to see people approve of PP, but what really toasts my cookies is the media spin about it.

For instance, the ABC piece about cutting military pay was written so convoluted so as to not be clear that Obama was the one in the way of it, in order to get more funding for PP. I’d like to think the reporter was just a bad writer but I’m sure she was trying to be deceptive.

Well, you have to pick your battles and when you fight.

Bohner is still our best hope for the time being. Don’t eat your young.

Planned Parenthood is the business model for nationalized healthcare. One stop shop from cradle to grave. They will rebrand it, but the money has been promised and deals have been struck. The franchaise is already in place.

I think we all know here that PP wouldn’t go out of the abortion business if taxpayer funds are cut off.

And I think we all agree that PP is an utterly repellent organization, and the really shouldn't be getting money from the gov't.

But "cutting funding" in these sorts of bills probably wouldn't even reduce the number abortions they perform. That's why I take issue with this article ... it's misleading as to the effect of the "deal," and it thereby opens the debate up to nitpicking on PP's part: a tactic that has served them extremely well in the past.
