I think it could.
I think a lot of organizations on the left are thinking so, too, which is why they're slowly backing off their support for PP.
I think we've got a good chance for 2012. I kind of see where the squabbling now might work in our favor; if we can get the arguments somewhat worked out now (with the falsehoods you mention explained more clearly in time) there is more of a chance of clearer sailing come Fall 2012. Here's to hoping anyway.
