Why? I do not know why the progressives do what they do other than they are a delusional group who think they know best and as such seek to amass power so that they can impose their views for a collective utopia through ideological tyranny that tramples the individual, the family and many if not all valuable social private and public institutions.
As to one false premise underlying your question; 'homosexual beings' have never been banned from the military as there is as yet no such being identified that even could be banned. It has always been the activity that was banned. The left now attempts to 'okay' the activity of homosexual sex in the military.
Well, laws can be changed; however, reality can not. I do not think this attempt will succeed. The odds (laws of nature) are heavily against it.
Forgive me. My comment wasn’t precise. The implied antecedent of “them” is not “homosexual beings” but self-proclaimed homosexuals. You are of course correct that “homosexual beings” have never been barred from military service—not because homosexuality itself wasn’t banned but because the “homosexual being” subcategory of humanity doesn’t exist—yet. “Don’t-ask-don’t-tell” recognized this distinction. Unless one was caught in a homosexual act OR proclaimed himself to be homosexual (meaning that he did and would continue to behave homosexually), his service in the military couldn’t be questioned. Lord knows, it’s far from optimum policy and smacks of PC; but the intent was clear. That intent no longer applies to military service. What our government progressives now say is that the act is okay; the act is no longer considered an abnormality, a psychiatric flaw previously described medically as a psychosis (sufficient for medical disqualification) and militarily as a morale impediment, never mind a serious public health issue and, by the way, the second-most craven of all natural-law violations.
The fear is, of course, that academics (leading all popular culture) will continue this backward argument, using such accidental evidence of U. S. military policy to justify the existence of a homosexual subset of humanity.
