To put it gracefully, some of those "ties" are strained, at best.

Catholic colleges, like any institution of higher learning, hire a diverse portfolio of professors. If a professor in the math, or chemistry department has some loose affiliation to Planned Parenthood, who cares?

I went to one of those 150 Catholic colleges. And, my alma mater has Jewish Rabbis, protestant theologians and even an Imam or two - does that mean the university has abandoned their Catholic traditions? No, not at all. In fact, the Catholic tradition is one of religious pluralism and ecumenical outreach ESPECIALLY in the academic environment.

When great Catholic schools stop hiring people based on prior affiliations those people have, or may continue to have with organizations that have some cognitive dissonance with Catholic orthodoxy, then those Catholic schools cease being "great".

Your dismissive response that a mega-million dollar abortion business has "some cognitive dissonance with Catholic orthodoxy" is a preposterous understatement.

Yes, some of the ties are stronger and some are weaker. All the detail is shown and people can decide the appropriate remedy depending on the situation.

But in your case, you seem to be turning around and launching salvos at the Cardinal Newman Society for even putting this information out there, an extremely uncharitable and even anti-Catholic response.

For a long time there has been a glut qualified of people that apply for any college teaching position. Catholic colleges should take greater care in the interviewing and hiring process to ensure that those they hire hold beliefs that are in accordance with the Catholic Church.

If there is no difference in the moral beliefs of an instructor at a Catholic college, why should I pay $30,000 a year to send my daughter to University of Detroit Mercy as opposed to $9,000 at Oakland University?
