GOVT MOTORS cars already falling apart! (Drudge headline) (The new Vega)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 4-11-2011 | Jonathan Welsh

Imagine turning your car’s steering wheel, or giving it a gentle tug, and having it break away from the steering column. Now you’re speeding along holding the suddenly useless wheel.

The Big 3 never really grokked small cars. If you think about the Camaro and Vega, GM pretty much just shrank the Camaro.
I remember riding in the very back of a packed Ford Pinto, right under the window, ice in the road: “Don’t stop short, Jerry! (the driver).”
So he stopped short on I-70, we got hit in the rear end and I jumped out of that bomb on wheels like a jack-in-the-box.
I suppose with the Volt the danger will be a dousing with battery acid.

Occasionally, GM DOES make a good product. I have my 1989 Olds Trofeo , that I drive every day about 70 miles. It still does pretty good on gas and is pretty reliable. It makes a lot of creaking and rattling noises(struts and such getting old), but still drives good, gets pretty good mileage, decent pickup—and is MUCH more reliable than my 2001 Chrysler minivan that I drive MUCH LESS often.

right, my old vega ran for 20 years, I finally gave it away and even then I still saw it occasionally on the streets. One trick you had to learn tho, was stopping on wet streets, it wanted to slide all over the place, fun fun fun in LA traffic

I know your type, Tom—you’d vote for Obama if he wore those white go-go boots!

I’ll keep cheering until GM is dead.

I’ll second that!

In addition to ripping of the taxpayers, the Obama Administration and GM also conspired to rip off bondholders in a big way. The bulk of the stock of the surviving entity went to the unions, rather than to bondholders, in defiance of about 200 years of bankrupcy law. I suppose that comes under the heading of “fundamental change”.

As a holder of GM bonds in my retirement account, I will never buy a GM product again. As far as I’m concerned, anybody who does so is dealing in stolen goods.

After my ex’s Vega blew the engine for the third time, it became a chicken coop.

Wasn’t even good for that.

I hereby christen this car the "Obama".

Yes, with full knowledge of the connotations of "christen".

Cheers!

I no longer held GM bonds when that crime was committed, but I was equally disgusted. The rule of law is supposed to mean something, but Pelosi, Reid, and Obama saw those private assets as just another pile of wealth they could spread around to their supporters. That grand theft was the final straw and the reason my boycott is permanent. It's not just a matter of politics, but one of values. It would be immoral to support GM in any way after their hideous conduct toward the rightful claimants on their assets.

“Imagine turning your car’s steering wheel, or giving it a gentle tug, and having it break away from the steering column.”

I’d be singin’ “You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel...”!
