I just realized, there’s really no auto salvage yard within 100 miles of here. Only those few of us, who bother with the complications of building self-sufficiency in energy systems, growing food (for ourselves) and repairing everything (including metal fabrication and cutting) while preparing in advance will stay. All who avoid seeing and thinking will move to the cities soon.

More info for those few who will be left.

On engines, use the following keywords.

build a [your vehicle make, engine displacement here] stroker

TECH: Windshield chopping with tile saw.

And study roll cage building.

It’s fun in the meantime and essential later on. Oh, and another role model for you young folks (see my other links to the rat rods of others).

And no, that’s not me. My rod is a stealthy sleeper—23 mpg, with another, uglier work in patient progress.

The nearest junkyard, er, automobile recycling facility, to us is 30 miles.

We used to have several within 5 or so.

I spoke to a former owner and asked what happened to all of them.

He told me the environmental regulations essentially made it impossible to operate and make a profit.

Add to this the fact that many such places are now owned and operated by national chains like Greenleaf, and others are owned by the insurance companies consortiums, and deal only with insurance companies, not the public.....
