"VAN SUSTEREN: Do you agree with Rush Limbaugh that the GOP caved?

TRUMP: Well, I'm a fan of Rush. I like Rush a lot. I think it's step-by-step. Certainly they probably wanted a little more, but if you look at the pundits, they're all saying that Obama lost big and the Democrats lost big. But I think it's a step-by-step issue, and next year will really be telling.

Why can't Trump answer the question directly?
Reading this: Does anyone here think Trump answered Greta's question?

Reminds me of the time I was sitting in on meetings with CEOs. Direct questions rarely get answered until the lawyers have scripted the contract.

Isn’t he just saying the budget was a compromise, both sides got some of what they wanted? Happens in business all the time.

But he has his priorities straight, which as I read it, are;

(1) make sure Obama does NOT get re-elected (thus the “independent” threat - code for if Romney wins the nomination, Trump will go it alone to stop Obama)

(2) fix the economy / national finances, which urgently need WH leadership and aren’t currently getting it.

On these,we are all in agreement.

Although I don't exactly consider myself to be on the Trump bandwagon, it's not a bad answer for a (wannabe) candidate. Greta asks, "Do you agree with Rush Limbaugh that the GOP caved?"

Greta is the one that injected Rush, so Donald felt obliged to address that. Had Greta simply asked "Do you think the GOP caved?" Trump's answer would have ommitted the first sentence and we'd have been left with something more along the lines of his last two sentences where he plainly says that, "Certainly they probably wanted a little more...But I think it's a step-by-step issue, and next year will be really telling."

I take from that answer that Trump is looking at the 'cave' as not desireable on its face, but perhaps a strategic concession in advance of next year's (2012) budget. I don't necessarily view it the same way, but I don't think it's exactly a slick attempt to dodge the question either.
