Editorial: Mitt Romney’s RomneyCare Problem
IBD Editorials ^ | April 12, 2011 | Staff

Big Government: Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney begins his second bid for the presidency with an albatross around his neck. The sooner he admits his state version of ObamaCare was a mistake, the better.

As Mitt Romney announced the formation of his 2012 exploratory committee, waggish Democrats were "cheering" the fifth anniversary of RomneyCare, the state health care overhaul he brought to Massachusetts. "Mitt Romney is nothing short of a founding father of modern health reform," declared New Hampshire Democratic Party chairman Ray Buckley as he and other Democrats whooped it up with a RomneyCare birthday cake.

Democrats were really celebrating how RomneyCare hurts Romney's chances with primary voters. Obama's trillion-dollar-plus takeover of the health insurance industry was a huge factor in the GOP takeover of the House of Representatives last November, and the struggle to repeal ObamaCare may be the dominant domestic issue among Republican presidential hopefuls.

Romney has a few good things going for himself: his rescue of the scandal-ridden 2002 Winter Olympics, his ability to win votes in the most liberal of states and his experience in private equity management, in which he turned around ailing businesses.

He may understand the private sector better than his GOP rivals, but he clearly had a lapse in that understanding when pulled his medical act in Massachusetts. Paving the way for ObamaCare, Romney's plan was the first time a state forced its residents to buy a product or service simply because they lived in the state.

RomneyCare is not the problem; it is merely a symptom of the problem, which is Romney’s big-government centrist approach to solving any problem.

Romneycare is a big HMO with the government as the gatekeeper. It is like the Bates Hotel. Once you check in you can’t check out. The Really big HMO will be Obamacare.

Romney has a few good things going for himself: his rescue of the scandal-ridden 2002 Winter Olympics,

So how does this translate into , "President Mitt Romney"?

his ability to win votes in the most liberal of states

OK so he's a great RINO, able to appeal to leftists and the Boston Globe,
Exactly what we DON'T need!

and his experience in private equity management, in which he turned around ailing businesses.

I'll give him this one, but unfortunately business success doesn't translate into a great candidate. Case in point: H.Ross Perot

Close. Unnatural citizen Mitt Romney (Mexican)
invited every illegal he could to Mass to bankrupt it
and for other reasons, and then expected the US gov't
to bail out the situation HE created.

RomneyCARE is also a problem. Rates are up, and
and the density of available doctors is down.

How can Mitt reject his “baby”? He pinned his hopes and future on his abomination. It defines him as a big-government, RINO loser.

"Unnatural citizen Mitt Romney (Mexican)..."

You must be even older'n me!

You've confused Mitt with his dad, George, who was in fact born in Mexico.

and THAT explains all rest of Romney and his
backstabbing RomneyBOTs (hide the children from them).

Even if he admits (or claims) it was a mistake what principle was he following when he signed the thing?

Mitt Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan.[1] He was the youngest child of George W. Romney, a man of humble upbringing who by 1948 had become an automobile executive, and Lenore Romney

Source

George Wilcken Romney was thus born in Colonia Dublán, Galeana, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua – one of the Mormon colonies in Mexico – on July 8, 1907, to American parents.

You see unlike the the US Mexico does not grant chilren of foreiners automatic citizenship when they are born in Mexico

“RomneyCare is not the problem; it is merely a symptom of the problem, which is Romney’s big-government centrist approach to solving any problem.”

We should be more precise:
1. RomneyCare *IS* a problem by itself because its a bad law, a mini-Obamacare that leads us astray.
2. It’s also an example of how we ‘compromise’ with the liberals and end up enacting laws that are bad but which they want us to get blamed for ... GWB did that in spades (NCLB, immigration law, etc).

Other than Rush, I dont here anyone out there talking about the necessity of defeating the Democrats and liberals and going after them hammer and tong.

If he admitted it now I wouldn't believe him, and it doesn't matter. He did it. The damage is done.

He represents everything that's wrong with the GOP. I don't want us going safe (Romney) or wild (Trump) in overreaction to the Obamunist.

I can't stand all these "experts" who have already given Romney the nomination. It's so obvious he can't challenge Obama on the biggest issue, Obamacare/Big Govt/spending. It's maddening.
