Trump: I’d like to run as a Republican, but... (misleading headline alert)
Capitol Confidential ^ | 04/14/2011 | Rick Karlin

New-minted birther, real estate developer and reality-show host Donald Trump continued his flirtation with a White House run Thursday, saying he’d love to run as a Republican, but he wouldn’t rule out running as an independent if he had too.

“It’s not the case that it would be nothing,” he told Talk 1300′s Fred Dicker, who asked him if would only run on the GOP line.

“It’s not something that I want to do. I want to run as a Republican. I don’t want to run as an independent,” he said later, adding he believes he could beat President Barack Obama.

The current state of affairs in Washington and the nation in general, Trump said is “Jimmy Carter-esque.”

Trump didn’t refute a report on the conservative Newsmax web site that he would make an announcement on the May 15 airing of his show “Celebrity Apprentice,” although that wouldn’t be a presidential nod — at least not on the show.

“As you know, I can’t announce during the show, I really can’t,” he said.

Then he added of the Newsmax report, “I don’t know where it came from … but it’s right in that I will be making a decision sometimes prior to June.”

While Trump may view the Obama administration as a disaster, he said he’s impressed with what Andrew Cuomo has done so far as governor.

“I think he’s doing a terrific job,” Trump said of Cuomo. “He’s setting a great example, he’s doing it with style and with class and I’m very proud of him.”

To me, THIS doesn't sound like a guy who wants to be a spoiler:

“It’s not something that I want to do. I want to run as a Republican. I don’t want to run as an independent,” he said later, adding he believes he could beat President Barack Obama.

Misleading headline.

Interesting how he praises Cuomo. Honestly, the guy deserves it - who knew it would take a Cuomo to come up with a decent budget for New York. I'm shocked.

Trump is going to hurt his product and his image with any kind of Third Party Talk. The Tea Party Movement has it just right: Take over the GOP and then take back the Government. There is no other way. Third Party = 4 more years of Obama.

Personally I love his Birth Certificate initiative but I’m backing away from Trump pretty quickly right now because of this issue.

What if runs as a 3rd party candidate but only goes negative on Obama and keeps the birther/rezko issues alive.. The republican candidate can stay above the fray and Trump can bring Obama negatives really high.. H

After today's vote by the “conservative”, “cut entitlements”, “save America” GOP elitists I'll vote 3rd Party.

I really can't see any difference between Obama and the Boehner “save MY entitlement” GOP “leaders”!

The Tea Party could also break away and have a 3rd or 4th Party Candidate. I'm tired of “having” to waste my vote on the likes of McCain like I did in 2008. I'll waste it one someone that has the guts to make a difference.

Agreed: if he were to actually try and pull a "Ross Perot", then we're doomed.

OTOH, the "Vice Presidential Apprentice" show would be comical.

He will suck off GOP votes that could be used to defeat Obama and Obama will sneak in on all the close state electoral college races. It's a loser.

He can keep the Birther thing going right through the election cycle by simply setting up TrumpBirther.com, soliciting funds and advertising like crazy. A Swiftboating of the issue would kill Obama. That's the best thing for the country. But Trump is to much the O'Reilly-like Ego to do something like that. Not a money maker for him.

*Someone* needs an editor in addition to headline writer.

I won’t worry until it happens. No reason to.

I didn’t get the impression that a third party run is all that likely. Trump ain’t gonna run to lose.
