Just drove the full length of I-80 in Nebraska on Tuesday. Started the day in Laramie, Wyoming. Ended it in Newton, Iowa. Weather was beautiful. What a difference three days make!
It used to be that you took your chances on I-80. Now they have gates which close down at the first sign of trouble and send you off the exit into the nearest town. Trouble is that there are some sections of I-80 with no exits and some exits with no towns.

We did that stretch in reverse last August; being desert folk those gates made us decide we'd never take the drive in January. Some of those little Wyoming pitstops don't even have a gas station, let alone food or lodging.

We saw those while driving from CA to Wisconsin during our move last December. Wife and I decided we'd never try something like that again!
