Former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land will spend the next couple of weeks considering a 2012 challenge to U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing.
The Byron Center Republican, speaking today after former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra announced he would not seek the position, said: I'm truly, deeply concerned about the overspending in Washington, D.C., and what that means for our children and grandchildren. I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks seriously looking at this.
She said Hoekstra, R-Holland, obviously would have been a strong candidate.
Pete Hoekstra was a great congressman and he would have made an excellent senator.

Terri Lynn Land sounds like she would be a good candidate, but I don’t know much about her.
She was a excellent Secretary of State. Not that the position gives you opportunities at greatness, but she did make the SoS office run far more efficiently.
Hoekstra just doesn’t have a fire. His run for Governor was tepid.
In 2009 she announced early for Michigan’s governor’s race but she got zero traction and folded first IIRC.
Then rather than waiting awhile to see who she might endorse she signed up with Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard - who got his butt beat bad in the primary.
A smart woman, but we need a fighter who can knock our fat womanbovineporcine senator Fat Deb to the curb.
Maybe Land’s gender will get her some extra free publicity. Michigan has never seen a U.S. Senate race in which both major party nominees were both women.
I like TLL and would vote for her in a heartbeat...then again I’d vote for DOG SHIT before Stabenow.
Only one of the candidates would be a woman, the other one is a feminist.
I guess the only thing that concerns me is that she didn’t make much noise about vote fraud in the last couple of elections.
That said, I don’t know much about her.
Agreed. Debbie Stabenow is crap; TLL isn’t the one you want, however.....

She gets no respect. If she does run against Stabenow, she needs a dose of confidence and strength that I do not think she possesses on her own. But my story took place 3 years ago.
I think she is very smart, but she can't be shy in the face of the most liberal senator in the nation.
The name Betsy DeVos is floating around. I hope one of these ladies is more of a fighter than Dick DeVos was.
Also, I don't rule out Engler, but a woman would have a better advantage against Stabenow than a big brash man like Engler.
I wouldn’t have minded seeking Hoekstra run.
Land has won 2 statewide races, that’s a plus.
Land just announced today she won’t run against the Deb - Michigan my Michigan - can you be this suicidal????
