Two of today's headlines seem as though they may be linked:
45 Percent of Americans Don't Owe 2010 Federal Income Taxes.
43 Percent of Americans Say They Are Paying About the Right Amount of Federal Income Taxes.
If I weren't paying any income taxes, I might be happy with the status quo, too.
The other 2% are probably bummed about FICA.
Coinkydink bookmark.
Yeah, I would love to see the intersection of those two sets of data.
If you don’t pat taxes, you shouldn’t be eligible to vote. Why should someone with absolutely “no skin in the game” be allowed to dictate to those who are being bled dry by the scumbags in DC?
I also think government employees should not be voting.
Congress creates the tax code and creates deductions and credits for their friends and to encourage certain behavior. In the late 60s, 155 wealthy individuals did what congress wanted them to do and as a result, paid no income taxes.
Instead of eliminating the loopholes and deductions, they created the Alternative Minimum Tax.
According to this article, 4,000 people with a 1 million+ income paid no income taxes for last year. (And don't forget GE -- wikipedia says the corporate AMT is 20%).
Clearly, the Alternative Minimum Tax is not working.
Anyone getting paid by taxpayers should not be deciding who runs the country. Our “public servants” are not supposed to be our masters.
Oh, yes I have.
Government employees and welfare leeches have a perverted incentive to get more power and wealth out of the hands of the private sector. We should not trust “public servants” to decide their own pay and benefits, for example.
Actually, it is working wonderfully!
It’s real purpose was to tax those who through inflation will be taxed more and more and be inflated into that higher tax law. While it still protects those at the top of the heap.
The goal has always been to decimate the middle class, while posing as class warfare to help the poor.
Denying voting privileges to taxpaying citizens who are performing necessary government functions is ludicrous. We can debate what government functions are “necessary”, but once we’ve agreed that those functions need to be performed, all citizenship privileges should be afforded those who perform those functions.
I agree that government employees should not decide their own pay and benefits. Those decisions should be made by the people’s elected representatives.
