Workers in the northwestern Iranian city of Qazvin have staged protests in recent days to demand the payment of wage arrears.
The reformist website Jaras reported that dozens of workers at Qazvin's textile industry staged a demonstration in front of the Presidential Institute in Tehran on April 16, saying they had not been paid for over a year.
The next day, Fars agency reported that workers at Qazvin's Naznakh textile company protested in front of the parliament for not having received their wages for the past 16 months.
Workers at the city's Ziaran slaughterhouse also claim not to have received their wages for more than 24 months.
"The problem has arisen since the firm was privatized, after which the owners backed out claiming that they have not received ample budget from the government to run the firm," a Ziaran worker who spoke on condition of anonymity told RFE/RL's Radio Farda today.
He said he has not been paid for the past 27 months, leaving him on the verge of destitution.
"I dare say that I and some of my fellows are on the verge of a divorce due to financial problems," he added.
Interesting dichotomy. He's worked for 27 months without getting paid. Many Americans are getting paid for 22 months without working.
Yes. They continue to go to work every day in the hope that they will be paid, because there’s no other work.

Well you know the government just needs the money to attack Israel and the west sorry for the suffering, dead infidels first....
Reminds me of the story of the kid who joined the Navy for four years and never got a pay check. He lived in the barracks and ate at the mess hall. When he was getting out and they finally had to fix the problem he had a very nice nest egg to start his new life with. Unfortunately I doubt this story will have such a feel good ending.
dude, if a bunch of workers went without pay for sixteen months here there’d be some politicians’ heads rolling down the gutters
