EDITORIAL: Gas prices and the Gulf oil spill
The Washington Times ^ | April 19, 2011 | Editorial

One year later, Obama’s energy plan is ‘Brazil or bust’

Today, on the one-year anniversary, Americans don’t have to travel to the Gulf to witness the lingering effect of the the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. It’s right there in the numbers on their gas receipts every time they fill up at the pump. As hurtful as the disaster has been to the economic fortunes of the Gulf region, the impact of the Obama administration’s response to the spill has been far worse on the nation’s economy.

On April 20, 2010, the day of the tragic oil-rig blowout that killed 11 workers, the average price for gas nationwide was $2.87 a gallon. Today, it’s nearly a dollar higher. Residents of California, Connecticut, New York, Illinois, Hawaii and Alaska already have seen gasoline crack the $4 mark. If the price at the pump holds to its current trajectory, by Memorial Day, it will surpass the all-time nationwide high of $4.11 set in July 2008. Beyond that, the summer driving season could make $5 gas a nightmarish reality.

Following last year’s spill, President Obama seized on the crisis to advance his radical green energy agenda, imposing a six-month moratorium on new deepwater oil-drilling permits in the Gulf and ordering a halt to all deepwater drilling operations already under way. He also reinstated a decades-old prohibition he had just lifted on oil and gas drilling along the coasts of the Atlantic states and northern Alaska...

Why is this date and tomorrow important?

Why were SWAT teams sent to ALL THOSE RIGS by Holder?

Why did the Deepwater Horizon SINK?

Why were media kept so far at a distance?

What were the results of the autopsies on those who died during that incident?

How many of OUR off-shore rigs left with OUR technology? Where are those rigs NOW?

What are the results of documented effects on marine life NOW?

What are the economic condiitons in Louisiana around that area NOW?

Obama’s monetary support of drilling in Brazil is obscene. What is wrong with American companies with American workers drilling for oil in America? Imagine the howls if George Bush had done this.

It is absolutely obscene. Zer0 screams about jobs and kills American jobs then lends money to foreign countries that supports jobs there.

the above should read “remember the howls, by the media, in 2008 when gas was this high. I remember it was all Bush and his oil buddies. I would love to find some of those articles and see how the libtard who wrote them feel about it now.

Obama and the Dems just don't get it....Doing nothing is not an option.

No, you don't get it that this is Soro's plan to harm America and the dollar while supplying China with Brazilian oil, all the while Soros makes billions off Brazilian oil and a depreciating dollar.

This is all by Soros's plan. This is by design. You don't get that this is not incompetence by Obama. Obama is just following Soros's orders. This is all by design. The massive deficits. Obamacare. High gas prices and getting us out of our cars and into transit. The horrific monetary policy. This is all by design on orders from Soros to destroy the US economy.

Obama and the Dems get it just fine. They get that their goal is to implement hard socialism in America and this is the way they are going about it. Don't confuse Obama's evil for incompetence. Obama is not even the evil force behind all this, he is just a marionette played by Soros. If Hillary was president, it would be the same thing.

Obama and company think $3.65 per gallon isn't high enough. They aren't about to come out and say so. I would expect the August-September 2012 price to drop below $3, while Obama will take boucups credit. If he gets as second term, he will engineer a $6+ price for gas.

Over the next year we may decrease exported oil and increase domestic production, only because of secondary recovery technique.

You’re more than likely correct. I’d like to think Obama would have already been impeached by August-September of 2012 but I know it’s wishful thinking.

Exactly! It really is this simple. Sad, yes. But still...

This was entirely predictable, and predicted. The Gulf Crude is the oil at shipping ports, unlike the landlocked crude oil from the Bakken and Three Forks. As such, it can be shipped on tankers to refineries anywhere, not just in the midcontinent by pipeline. Interrupt the supply, or interrupt the replacement of depleting reserves with new wells (same effect, just takes longer) and the price of crude (and gasoline and diesel) is going to go up.

Obama has manufactured the coastal US crude shortage, compared to what there is at the Cushing Hub, and that means the coasts are going to pay more than the midcontinent for motor fuels, allowing for state and local taxes.

Inflation does the rest.

While this benefits Soros and other foreign interests, it also makes the most populous regions of the coasts an easier sell for 'alternative' energy and the money laundering schemes ahem, green energy grants which abound in the field.

Obama does talk about jobs, deficit spending reductions, energy policy, and a whole lot more. People are finally starting to realize that he is just talking. He won't let anyone know what he thinks or what he believes in or what he will do. He is talking just to say what people want him to him to say, and then he will do what he has planned to do all along, which is exactly what he is doing. His words are nothing, just a distraction for the masses. It's the craziest thing, but there it is.

Obama is the greatest example ever of the classic hot air windbag political archetype. His talk is for consumption, his actions are for a purpose. If his words ever match what he is doing, it will be merely coincidence.

There’s no doubt you’re right, he and his handler do not want what is best for the country. 2012 can’t come soon enough and we must get rid of the turkey.
