John McCain praises Gov. Jan Brewer for veto of 'birther bill'

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Tuesday credited Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) for making "the right decision" with her veto of the so-called "birther bill," which would have required presidential candidates to submit their birth certificates in order to qualify for the ballot.

-snip-

Legislation like this has been offered in a number of state legislatures across the country, driven by persistent speculation in some quarters that President Obama was not born in Hawaii. No similar law had gotten as far as a governor's desk, however.

McCain, Obama's 2008 Republican rival, said in a message posted to Twitter Tuesday afternoon that he was "proud" of Brewer "for her veto of the 'birther bill' - it was the right decision."

"Spokesmen for the Arizona House of Representatives and Senate said there are no plans to try to override that or other vetoes this week."

If you had any doubts Brewer did the wrong thing, this should erase them.

That was nearly on cue. Brewer and McCain - Obama’s Arizona faction of the Organizing For America terrorist organization.

Before we condemn Gov. Brewer, please read her statement regarding the veto of this bill.

I read it. Her statement is ridiculous. Read the bill for yourself.

I have no doubt that Brewer consulted with McCain prior to making the decision.

The more time goes on, the less I see even a need for the Senate.

This explains the veto.

Brewer is running for Senator from AZ to replace John Kyl in 2012.

The RINO's bought her fair and square.

So that means if Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to run for President, that would be OK. Doesn’t make any difference what the constitution says, since he wouldn’t have to prove it anyway.

I read it, and I agree with your assertion. It plainly states that the Secretary of State is the recipient of the approprite documentation, and that in lieu of a long form Birth Cert, 2 of the 4 mentioned docs can be provided, one of which is a Baptismal record (Christian) or Circumcision (Jewish) record.

Here reasoning is weak, this she did not read it, or is making a politically motivated decision. Loser either way.

I read the bill...this is probably why Brewer vetoed it...it does not change anything:

IF THE CANDIDATE DOES NOT POSSESS A LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE AS REQUIRED BY THIS PARAGRAPH, THE CANDIDATE MAY ATTACH TWO OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS THAT SHALL TAKE THE PLACE OF THE LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE IF THE CANDIDATE SWEARS TO THEIR AUTHENTICITY AND VALIDITY AND THE DOCUMENTS CONTAIN ENOUGH INFORMATION FOR THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO DETERMINE IF THE CANDIDATE MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS PRESCRIBED IN ARTICLE II, SECTION 1, CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES:

(a) EARLY BAPTISMAL OR CIRCUMCISION CERTIFICATE.

(b) HOSPITAL BIRTH RECORD.

(c) POSTPARTUM MEDICAL RECORD FOR THE MOTHER OR CHILD SIGNED BY THE DOCTOR OR MIDWIFE OR THE PERSON WHO DELIVERED OR EXAMINED THE CHILD AFTER BIRTH.

(d) EARLY CENSUS RECORD.

2. A SWORN STATEMENT OR FORM THAT IDENTIFIES THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE'S PLACES OF RESIDENCE IN THE UNITED STATES FOR FOURTEEN YEARS.

C. IN ADDITION TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF SUBSECTION B, THE PRESIDENTIAL

CANDIDATE MAY ALSO SUBMIT A NOTARIZED AFFIDAVIT FROM TWO OR MORE PERSONS WHO WITNESSED THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE'S BIRTH.

IMHO, everything after the first paragraph makes the bill worthless.
