Tough Crowd for Anti-War Conservatives (Coulter, Norquist Call for Afghan Pullout)
Commentary ^ | Wednesday, April 20, 2011 | Alana Goodman

Grover Norquist has recently been trying to drum up a right-wing anti-war “coalition” with Steve Clemons, a director at the indisputably left-wing New America Foundation. According to Norquist, conservatives are growing tired of the war in Afghanistan and want to have a “serious conversation” about abandoning the mission. So today Norquist, Clemons, and Ann Coulter held a panel discussion titled “On the Right: The Afghanistan Conversation.”

Coulter’s standard speech of one-liners was met with bewildered silence from a left-wing audience that clearly came expecting anti-war platitudes. She said she disagreed with the war in Afghanistan, apparently because she felt the U.S. should be spending its time waging more wars for oil and taking military action against Iran instead. The audience wasn’t amused.

The awkwardness continued through the Q&A portion of the event.

“Ahmadinejad won the 2009 elections] fair and square, we have to get over it,” one attendee informed the panel. A Code Pink activist asked Coulter whether she was concerned about “immense profits for corporations” from the wars. Another attendee suggested that Coulter should convince GOP presidential candidates to come out against the war in Afghanistan.

The audience appeared to enjoy Norquist’s speech more than Coulter’s, possibly because he kept decrying the “American occupation of Afghanistan.” He also spent much of his time on the panel insisting that the conservative movement doesn’t have a strong opinion on foreign policy.

“This is now Obama’s war…so everyone on the right is allowed to think for themselves on this issue,” he said. If the president pulled out of Afghanistan, “there may be five op-ed writers who would send him nasty notes,” said Norquist. “There’s no institution [that would oppose it].”

Sadly, Norquist never explained why he and Coulter were the only ones speaking at the conference if there was allegedly so much conservative opposition to Afghanistan. Or why the audience was overwhelmingly liberal. But at least we got to see what his idea of a “serious conversation” on the war looks like.

If we're not letting our troops destroy our enemies and everyone else who chooses to get in the way of our mission in Iraq and Afghanistan then we have no business being there.

I think the second we pull out of either country, things will go straight to hell... these people, sadly, simply cannot govern themselves through a democratic system of government. They have to be ruled by a dictator. It might as well be a dictator who takes our sides in things.

Ann Coulter is a phony rabble rouser. She says stuff just to get a reaction anymore. I think the constant diet of Chardonnay and cigarettes have taken their toll on her clear thinking. Increasingly she will stray from logic just to light a fire in the left. She is still fun to watch as she did go out of her way to poke the audience in the eye.

Norquest, on the other hand, is the biggest infidel in the Conservative movement. He is the biggest pro towelhead, anti Israel POS there is. He uses fiscal arguments to back door pro muslim BS all the time. The reason the house was packed with Code Pink types is because they all know he is really one of their own. Most clear headed people on the right steer way clear. Go away Grover.

A "Love Note" Sent To Jim Robinson

“I do so enjoy these money raising pleas. Too bad you kicked off so many patriots back in the day that criticizing the big spending Bush was a cardinal sin on the so called conservative free republic.

Nope, I will happily continue to freeload information from this site. If the lights go dark, well, so be it...”

Grover Norquist is pro-Muzz all the way and has been so for years. His wife is Palestinian.

I hate us being in Afghanistan but it seems that if we withdraw the fundamentalists take over in Pakistan too and get their hands on nukes. Donald Trump is correct when he says that Iran is salivating and ready to take over Iraq as soon as we leave. We are in a jam

I say we pull out. But not before we implant a poison pill in Afghanistan. We should clear out an entire province and then offer free land to any Hindu’s that want to come. India has a few to spare and would love to have Pakistan worry about a 2 front war should it fall to the Jihadii’s

We shouldn’t have stayed. We just needed to go over there, blow up some mosques, kill most of the Tali-whackers and go home.

Now our guys are stranded and hog-tied while the Mullahs agitate more hatred.

Bush, I have to admit, screwed up. He should have gotten us out when it was obvious ‘bam was going to win.

Nation building— disaster by good intentions.

The leadership vacuum in this country is almost complete. I wonder what God is going to allow to fill it?

“I think the second we pull out of either country, things will go straight to hell... these people, sadly, simply cannot govern themselves through a democratic system of government.”

Ted Kennedy and the other Democrats had the same thought in 1972/3 when they voted to cut off funding for ammo and supplies for the South Vietnamese.

As you said, “things will go straight to hell..” and they did when the North Vietnamese funded by China and Russia conquered the South in 1975. The South was defenseless, literally.

Lazlo, you seem to be well versed on Ann Coulter’s misinformation. Could you please provide some examples taken from some of her books to back up your claim?

We can’t destroy the enemy troops when they have safe sanctuary in Pakistan. And Pakistan forbids us to send troops into its territory.

Trump is the only candidate I have heard openly saying what we should do with Billions we give to Pakistan every year...stop the stupidity.

Married to one. He is also a fund raiser, agenda setter, lobbyist and overall heavy hitter for the American based muslim terrorist front group, c.a.i.r. He also was a LONG time nra board member, (and the nra KNEW right from his initial installment to their board of his anti-American activities!!!), if you can believe that!(look it up if you don’t, heck, I had to myself a few years back when first told. The heck with the muslim loving nra.) He is at best a traitor to our Country and at worst................

"She says stuff just to get a reaction anymore.”

If you were able to read, you can see that my comments have nothing to do with whatever is in her books. The post is about her attending yet another in a long list of bizarre speaking engagements just to rile up her audience. She does debates with her good friend Bill Maher (she admits that openly), this stupid one with Norquist that no rational Conservative would attend and many others. At them she never says anything other than sound bite insults and odd concepts like the one she made at this event, constructed strictly to poke the leftists in the eye. Did she agree with Grover? Obviously not. She was there to make a headline and then head to the nearest bar (did you see how drunk/hungover she was at the CPAC speech?).

Watch her on Red Eye some time. She will totally avoid answering a question in the vain attempt to say something shocking about Libs or Obummer. I find it tedious.

Other of her gems from the recent past are saying that if the GOP doesn't nominate the fat RINO Christie, they will lose to Obummer. Radiation from the Japan reactor is good for people, health wise. The birth issue has been discredited thoroughly. The Republican party needs to embrace the gay movement. Need I say more? She has jumped the shark. But of course an Ann expert like you was fully aware of all her strange ideals.
