NCAA needs more academic focus (Kemba Walker)

Kemba Walker has read a book. You read that right: Walker, the University of Connecticut (UConn) star guard and NCAA Men's Basketball National Champion, Walker has just admitted to finishing his first book "cover-to-cover," in an interview for Sports Illustrated. While for many that is in fact an achievement, for a junior in college who will be graduating this May, who undoubtedly should have read quite a few texts over the years, it is an embarrassment. The incident once again illustrates the fantasy that is the life of a superstar Division I student-athlete.

Not an athlete, not a scholarship recipient, didn't even have the advantage of going to high school in Texas where her senior year was basically a joke and could have taken college credit courses! She did honors classes in PA where she really worked her butt off but got no extra credit, not even extra GPA credit... ;^)

I always laugh when someone brags about "graduating" in 3 years and it turns out they took dual credit classes in high school but don't count that in for the time put toward their college degree.

WOW! are you right. My son is a Dr. and bright. We looked for scholarships and there were almost none academic ones for a white male.

Here is an excerpt from the book Kemba read.

I can bounce a basketball,
I can bounce it off a wall,
I can bounce it down the hall,
I can dunk it cause I’m tall,
I love my big round basketball.

Well, now he knows that Spot can run, too. Jim Calhoun is a big Democrat. They don’t call it U-CON for nothing.
