Thanks fixed.

This is totally outrageous. Several of my relatives are on that list. People around here are saying they have never heard of such a thing. The sheriff’s office that released the information and this newspaper should be shamed and stuck with a class action lawsuit.

My impression of Iowa judges (based on the cases I've read) is that they are hostile to gun rights. Not to say a suit would be a waste, but anybody undertaking it should do so with the thought that they will lose in the end.

There are no quantifiable money damages, and the names folks are now roughly on parity with law enforcement (believed to have a gun at home, address is findable).

Looking farther ahead, as others have pointed out, this publication makes an argument that the right to keep and bear arms should not be done on a permit basis. The state of Iowa should adopt Vermont/Alaska/Arizona style law. Concealed carry is allowed without any permit.
