I agree. The NYT was running articles about McCain to avoid vetting Obama. McCaskill used that as a smokescreen (her S 2678 failed) to put a clause in SR 511, “Whereas previous presidential candidates were born outside of the United States of America and were UNDERSTOOD to be eligible to be President; and..” as a way to sneak Obama past Constitutional requirements.

I never thought McCain was ineligible, but repubs were so determined to get him past any questions. they signed SR 511, a non-binding, unconstitutional attempt to bypass the natural-born citizen requirement, thus showing their contempt for the Constitution. Even Tom Coburn (R-OK) co-sponsored the resolution.

Interesting take and if true that really makes my blood boil. I don’t put it past those cowards. One possible rationale that comes to mind is that the Republican cowards thought if they challenged Obama’s eligibility they would be called racists etc Or perhaps they thought it would get into a squabble back and forth and a challenge of McCain’s eligibility so they decided to take the whole issue off the table. Any number of explanations could be possible with that bunch
