After some quiet time following last years departure of union bosses Andy Stern and Anna Burger, it appears the purple behemoth known as Service Employees International Union, has been quietly plotting its own Egyptian-style revolution. Given the ever-shrinking private-sector union membership ranks, as well as the realization that its political influence has shrunk as well, the SEIUs plan is apparently to engage in a class-warfare based campaign.
According to a Politico piece, SEIUs plan (called Fight for a Fair Economy) and will reach outside the union movement in order to mobilizing underpaid, underemployed and unemployed workers and channeling anger about jobs into action for positive change.
SEIU President Mary Kay Henry acknowledged in an interview that the new strategy, which would include aggressive outreach to non-union members, is a risk.
We felt like we were called in this moment to roll the dice and to think about how to use our members resources for the greatest hope for changing members lives, she said. I hope what people will see is more of what we all witnessed in Madison. more people in the streets making demands about what kind of America we want to see.
The plan does not revolve as centrally around the 2012 elections as the SEIUs political program did in 2008, when it was the largest outside supporter of candidate Obama. It does, however, aim to organize public campaigns for economic issues around national flash points including this Augusts recess, corporate shareholder meetings next spring, and the debates and conventions next year. Henry was elected last year with a promise to reorient the union, and some Democratic officials worry the change will mean a less intense focus on their partys needs.

I hope and pray to God this backfires on them so bad it destroys SEIU.
Translation: The union thugs plan to enlist and recruit non-union blacks and hispanics for yet more union thuggery protests like in Wisconsin, despite the fact that those protests got them NOWHERE.
This is war, folks. Get used to it.
They actually seem to believe they can’t be replaced. I wonder if old Triceratops and T-Rex felt that same way. I know the Air Traffic Controllers did.
It is war. “Brother against brother” in some families...where have we heard that before?
Just commenting on the title here, and reading a couple of sentences.
But if I were to throw out a guess as to when they’ll do this?
Well, now, it looks like DuhWon got his private army after all. I wonder if those "mobilized underemployed and unemployed workers" are going to get union scale?
Or are they just exploiting the destitute and desperate for cheap labor?
The Marxists want war, this is the beginning.
Hat tip to Glenn Beck, who despite all the FR haters, brought nearly all of this to light.
Good way to hurt the economy.
Go right ahead. Less jobs for you all.
I’m willing to predict that ndividuals who keep their SEIU ‘protests’ and thuggery out of the portion of the country in which I reside will ultimately lead happier lives than those who do not.
NOTE: That is NOT intended as a threat, nor is it in any way an indication of my own intentions. It is merely my opinion, based on local demographics.
SEIU staged a sit in last year in Houston. They blocked a major road near the Galleria and when it was shown on tv I thought it would have been a perfect time for ICE to just gather them all up.... it was pretty obvious they were mostly illegals.
It honestly will not bother me one bit when reports start to come in that union members are getting whacked.
Right....demand even MORE taxpayers to give up their earnings for gold-plated benefits, way-overpaid wages, bloated extragavance for Union Bosses, and creation of meaningless/useless Government positions that can funnel even MORE taxpayers' money DIRECTLY to the DNC.....
Yeah; "change we can believe in......"
I just checked... my front sight is highly visible against a purple background.
sight alignment, sight picture.
Hmmmm, sounds like SEIU just needs some warm bodies, guess they don’t have enough of their own. I suppose it’s easy enough to get a few warm bodies if they don’t speak english and someone offers them some money to just sit here.
There’s a lot of buzz in the (small but meaningful) conservative contingent in Madistan about how the fallout from the protests is and will continue to hurt the local economy. Tourism, shopping, even visits to the Peoples House - who wants to put their family in jeopardy that some crazy unionista will start screaming and swearing at them?
I live an easy drive away from Madison but I’ll be avoiding trips to the Workers Paradise from now on.
We will be ready for them. Bring it on.
