Earth Day co-founder killed, composted girlfriend

Ira Einhorn preached against Vietnam War and violence, but had dark side

Ira Einhorn was on stage hosting the first Earth Day event at the Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970. Seven years later, police raided his closet and found the "composted" body of his ex-girlfriend inside a trunk.

A self-proclaimed environmental activist, Einhorn made a name for himself among ecological groups during the 1960s and '70s by taking on the role of a tie-dye-wearing ecological guru and Philadelphia’s head hippie. With his long beard and gap-toothed smile, Einhorn — who nicknamed himself "Unicorn" because his German-Jewish last name translates to "one horn" —advocated flower power, peace and free love to his fellow students at the University of Pennsylvania. He also claimed to have helped found Earth Day.

But the charismatic spokesman who helped bring awareness to environmental issues and preached against the Vietnam War — and any violence — had a secret dark side. When his girlfriend of five years, Helen "Holly" Maddux, moved to New York and broke up with him, Einhorn threatened that he would throw her left-behind personal belongings onto the street if she didn't come back to pick them up.

And so on Sept. 9, 1977, Maddux went back to the apartment that she and Einhorn had shared in Philadelphia to collect her things, and was never seen again. When Philadelphia police questioned Einhorn about her mysterious disappearance several weeks later, he claimed that she had gone out to the neighborhood co-op to buy some tofu and sprouts and never returned.

Liberals are just defective humans who would have been aborted if democrats were running all of creation.

The whole thing sounds like a dark side, doesn't it?

" . . . those evil fossil fuels . . . "

Look what one can learn by accidentally listening to Coast to Coast for a while. From Jerome Corsi (yes, THAT Jerome Corsi) I learned that oil is not necessarily a fossil fuel. It can be abiotic.

You miss the point. Einhorn is a caring liberal with good intentions. *Everyone* slips up from time to time..... On balance, ya done good, Ira!

Einhorn's role as "Earth Day co-founder" was wildly exaggerated by him, partly from his general pattern of self-aggrandizement and partly as an element of his "the man is out to get me" defense. At his trial, one of the REAL organizers of the Philadelphia Earth Day (his name was actually on the Organizing Committee list) testified that Einhorn had been barred from the organizing meetings, that they considered him "a nuisance" and that his only role was as their liaison to Allen Ginsberg, who was a featured speaker. Einhorn was allowed to introduce Ginsberg, but, according to the witness, "he 'commandeered the stage,' speaking 'incoherently' for half an hour and refusing repeated requests to leave and let the program continue. "

Apparently when this came out at his 2002 trial, it was pretty devastating.

It wasn't until 18 months later that investigators searched Einhorn’s apartment after one of his neighbors complained that a reddish-brown, foul-smelling liquid was leaking from the ceiling directly below Einhorn’s bedroom closet.*****

These enviros are some wacked out folks. This guy claims to be concerned about the environment and yet his personal environment had to exhibit the overwhelming stench of death and decay.

What these people are involved in is nothing more than gross idolatry and paganism which manifests itself as the veneration and worship of nature. Ultimately, these people love death which is the final destination of these hard-core environmental movements.

What I wonder is why the police didn’t search Einhorn’s apartment when the girl was reported missing since that was the last place she was known to have been.

"the psychosis of the Left. They have a vision of utopia, if you get in the way of that vision and that agenda - you die. "

Good point. And it reminds me of Hannah Arendt's further thesis, which was (to put it briefly):

Utopianism + State Power = Genocide

Arlen was his lawyer who was looking to run for the Senate. Einhorn was the darling of Barbara Bronfman, heiress to the Seagrams liquor fortune. Arlen got bail reduced to 40,00. someone out up the 4,000 and Ira skipped.

I was growing up then and admittedly followed all the counterculture stuff....southern boy long hair...smoked dope..read all the books and publications

At the time marijuana, naked girls with long hair and bucking the staid older folks seemed like fun (and it was)

this was before political correctness, racial redress and gender issues got so ridiculous and being a southerner I had yet to experience having my heritage which I held proudly be so eviscerated by busybodies looking to preen about their own effortless moral superiority

but one thing never dawned on me was that a majority the popular figures of hippiedom, commune life, political agitation and later...women's movement and corollary issues

...were urban Jews ..at least by birth....who mostly came from upper middle class or higher status and were often from fancy schools and were usually a lot older than the folks they were Pied Pipering around...most of the “movement” leaders I'm talking about were not baby boomers...they were older...hardly any at risk of the draft

Abbie Hoffman was 30

only a few of the Weather Underground maniacs were even close to being young early to mid boomer age.

It's just a fact I never noticed till I lived in NYC in my late 20s and it dawned on me....you can count a few non Jews...Leary, Tom Hayden, Bill Ayers, Stewart Brand (now a good guy)

At Abbie Hoffman's funeral the Rabbi who spoke said this: “ Mr. Hoffman's long history of protest, antic though much of it had been, was ‘’in the Jewish prophetic tradition, which is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.’...this predilection is discussed here at times at length

it's kind of mind blowing to look back and see how a handful of pampered Jewish kids and their Goy co-horts and a microscopic little drug called LSD so changed America culturally...and obviously not in a good way.

So Einhorn embodies closing chapter to buffoonery and lark behavior that became quite something else...much darker and destructive much like Einhorn's own behavior

scarier still that many of these players and people a bit younger who idolize them are now running our government with this administration

btw..Jay Severin spoke at Abbie Hoffman's funeral..man..he must have felt like a virgin at a pagan ritual

"It wasn't until 18 months later that investigators searched Einhorn's apartment..."

That's some impressive investigative work right there. The last-known person to see her alive, plus a bad history between the two and they don't search his apartment for 18 months?
