545 vs 300,000,000 People By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician millions of dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. The Speaker of the House (the leader of the majority party) and his/her fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army and Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...

They receive social security and are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insolvable government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

These 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Some other things to think about:

Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table, At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes Are the rule.

Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.

Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.

Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears.

Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways To tax his ass.

Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers; Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid...

Put these words Upon his tomb, 'Taxes drove me to my doom...'

When he's gone, Do not relax, Its time to apply The inheritance tax.

Accounts Receivable Tax Building Permit Tax CDL license Tax Cigarette Tax Corporate Income Tax Dog License Tax Excise Taxes Federal Income Tax Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA) Fishing License Tax Food License Tax Fuel Permit Tax Gasoline Tax (Federal tax is 18.4 cents per gallon, states add varying amounts, average 48.1 cents per gallon) Gross Receipts Tax Hunting License Tax Inheritance Tax Inventory Tax IRS Interest Charges (tax on tax) IRS Penalties Liquor Tax Luxury Taxes Marriage License Tax Medicare Tax Personal Property Tax Property Tax Real Estate Tax Service Charge Tax Social Security Tax Road Usage Tax Recreational Vehicle Tax Sales Tax School Tax State Income Tax State Unemployment Tax (SUTA) Telephone Federal Excise Tax Telephone Federal Universal Service Fee Tax Telephone Federal, State and Local Surcharge Taxes Telephone Minimum Usage Surcharge Tax Telephone Recurring and Nonrecurring Charges Tax Telephone State and Local Tax Telephone Usage Charge Tax Utility Taxes Vehicle License Registration Tax Vehicle Sales Tax Watercraft Registration Tax Well Permit Tax Workers Compensation Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY? Most of these taxes did not exist 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. For most of our history we had little to no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What in the heck happened? Can you spell "politicians"?

I hope this goes around the USA at least 545 times!!! YOU can help it get there!!!

GO AHEAD. . . BE AN AMERICAN!!!

Back in the '80s, I used to go to Washington a fair amount with friends. Sometimes I'd take a walk at night, over by the Lincoln Memorial, and look down the mall at the Washington Monument and the Capital Building, with the Supreme Court building just behind it. And I used to think:
"435 Congressmen plus 100 Senators plus 9 Supreme Court Justices plus one President... hmm. Five hundred fourty-five. Five hundred fourty-people could, if they wanted to, get together and take over the whole country, dispense with the Constitution, turn our Rule of Law upside down, and turn America into a hell on Earth."

And I would wonder: "why don't they?" What's to stop them? Nothing.

Nothing except an idea. Nothing except a concept, abstract and very difficult to measure, but everyone knows what it means. It's like the famous remark by Justice Potter Stewart about pornography: "I know it when I see it."

I mean, George Soros, Warren Buffett, and Bill Gates could get together and offer every one of those 545 human beings say, $50 million each, in gold, to turn America into the ecotopia wonderland they want so much. What's to stop them from doing it? Have they done it already?

Ten to twenty years ago I was carping to anyone who could stand talking to me that our total gov't burden, including taxes, fees, regulation, mandates, fines, tolls, etc would total at least 70 to 75% of every individual's total income.

It's time to re-asses (upwards).

As Putin (leader of Russia) said about 2 years age
“America went Socialist ... without a whimper.”

Apparently that is also covering the complete take over and destruction of America as it has been.

NAME ONE POSITIVE THING GOOD FOR THE NATION THAT HAS OCCURRED IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.

THERE IS A LONG LIST OF BAD AND DESTRUCTIVE THING THAT HAVE HAPPENED IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.

WHERE ARE OUR VOICES?

AS WE DO NOTHING. AS WE ALLOW IT.

Shut down of NASA space programs.
Loss of millions of Jobs.
Exclusion and shut down of drilling off shore, Alaska too.
Shut down of coal mines,

Setting aside of millions of acres for the government across America.

Trillions upon trillions of monies given to banks, foreign nations, wasted and set aside for who knows what.

Printing money like crazy 24 hours a day. Our dollar value falling around the world and losing about 25% of it's value.

All prices going up, especially on foods, energy, and taxes at all levels.

Getting America in other wars in Libya, etc.

Increasing the size of government by about 28%, with huge salaries.

Ordinary people are hurting.

A medicare/health bill the people do not want.

Immigration amnesty ... the people do not want.

Open borders, the people do not want.

and so on...

and what do we do ? Face book, Twitter, TV. Entertainment 24 hours a day.

Loss of face, appearing to be weak around the world.

Growth of Islamic populace entering America

Mosques Ground Zero Mosque.

AS WE SIT PASSIVELY WATCHING.

According to Wikipedia, Reese did put out this initially in the 1980’s ....and might have updated it ...but the basic facts are still valid. (He retired in 2008 ...so if he updated it as a final column, it was a few years ago.)

HOWEVER - what Reese fails to do is to point the blame where it REALLY belongs .....
the majority of the electorate who vote in those louses ....because they will vote for Santa Claus who will steal from Peter to give to Paul, knowing that Paul will vote for him - BECAUSE PAUL LIKES TO RECEIVE STOLEN GOODS!!!

Walter E. Williams (sometimes substitute host for Rush Limbaugh) points out that those who vote for politicians who “lard up the budget” are no different that unethical/immoral people who buy stolen goods at deep discount, knowing that the seller got the goods through theft.

If people voted for the politician who would most closely follow the Constitution ...we wouldn’t have the problems that we do.

It has come down to politicians willing to do unethical things to get re-elected ....because voters won’t vote for the honest/ethical politician who denies their constituents the opportunity to garner “free handouts” (taken from other hard workers!)

And as we get more and more people who are recipients of “stolen goods” - (fast approaching 50%) = those people WILL NEVER vote to have government get smaller ....and will support an even larger/more intrusive government.

BUT - Bottom Line - Charley Reese lays the blame on politicians ....for doing what politicians are most adept at doing - doing whatever it takes to get elected and re-elected. However - as Pogo said - “we have met the enemy, and he is us.” VOTERS are to blame. As to the minority of voters who might revere the Constitution and keep getting screwed, then they might need to be prepared to passively resist, or even actively resist!

MAYBE...if enough workers “GO GALT” ....and the economy tanks ...maybe some of those people who vote for government largess will reconsider and decide that our government should not do those things if the able workers go on strike! But I am not optimistic - since our education system has really dumbed down the voters, and they can’t see that we are becoming Greece (and France) - with more and more people protesting for better benefits paid by others.
