NEW YORK (1010 WINS) A maternity shop in Park Slope is offering a 10 percent discount to its customersits lesbian customers.
Karen Paperno, of the maternity and breastfeeding boutique Boing Boing, said the sale is not a social commentary, but just a way to help her clientele, who she said is struggling.
LISTEN: 1010 WINS Steve Sandberg spoke with Paperno about the special sale
Women make 77 cents on the dollar still. When two women are leading a household, theyre not making as much money as a married couple, Paperno said. Theyre not making as much money as other couples do. They dont have as much discretionary or disposable income.
The neighborhood is changing, she said, and often times, the families with two women cannot afford to remain there.
They are sort of what made it a great neighborhood and now they cant afford to live here anymore, Paperno said. Last month, I wanted to bring back the discount for lesbian moms because thats what Park Slope sort of means to me.

That’s exactly what it is.
Why would a gay male care about maternity store discounts? Unlike the lesbian, he can never utilize it.
Would it be okay for a diner to offer a 10% discount to senior citizens?
“whats Boing Boing?”
A male physical response needed to normally produce maternity customers.
This is no more price discrimination than a Denny’s offering senior discounts or offering a child’s menu.
Unless a homosexual male couple adopts!
All I had to read was the heading of the article at the top of the page. BARF!
Their reasons are silly and full of ignorance; but it’s a private business and they can do what they want.
The problem we have is there will be very little mass outcry over this. But, if a store like this had said it was only giving discounts to “married couples” (that’s one man and one woman we’re talking about), then most of the Libs and most of the media would be all over the story AND outraged over it.
More outraged than we are over this real story, because as a private business they can offer discounts to whomever they want. I may not like or agree with their choice, but it is their store. We just think it should be “O.K.” to everybody, in other directions as well.
As Conservatives we celebrate freedom more than political correctness, and just wish everyone else did as well.
