Those Confident That America’s Best Days Lie Ahead Down to 31% (lowest level ever)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | April 25, 2011 | by Scott Rasmussen

~ EXCERPT ~

Voter confidence that the nation’s best days are still to come has fallen to its lowest level ever.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters shows that just 31% believe America’s best days are in the future. That’s down three points from last month and is the lowest result found in polling since late 2006.

Fifty-three percent (53%) believe America’s best days are in the past, also the highest measurement in over four years. Sixteen percent (16%) are undecided.

Separate polling finds that only 22% of Likely Voters believe the United States is now heading in the right direction. That ties the lowest level found during Barack Obama’s presidency.

This is a quote from an unknown source which has frequently appeared on FR. It's brilliant and concise. It encapsulates, in just a few short words my feelings towards the present and the immediate future.

I'm sure most will recognize this quote but it's appropriate for the discussion at hand.

The danger to America is not Barack Hussein Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency.

It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved and ignorant electorate willing to have such a man for their president.

“...A nation cannot export jobs, capital, and technology for decades and expect to stay on top.”

What you say is true. But we’ve been down before.

Once the dollar is no longer the international reserve currency the SHTF - assuredly.

But the Muslim fools who caused 9/11 expected the U.S.A. to crumble. We did not oblige them by doing so.

Everyone seems to underate us. Europeans never expected the U.S. to make it after the Civil War, but we fought a war with Spain, then with China, then WWI and came out stronger than ever.

During the Depression we were hit with a debilitating environmental catastrophe causing a “dust bowl” in the Midwest, and all while paying very high taxes. Then came the attack on Pearl Harbor and WWII. Still, we came out stronger.

As you probably guess, I don’t see this as necessarily a bad situation but an opportunity.

We should chuck the United Nations off our shores, for starters, and the IMF after them. Hey, they won’t need our dollars anymore, now will they?

I do not support isolationism, but I know this nation can be energy independent.

I know we can feed ourselves and export any leftovers.

I know we have technological know-how. Hell, that’s why the Chinese are always stealing ideas from us!

Are there people who will riot? Sure, but they riot after football and basketball games. So what!

Right now we need some time to get ourselves reorganized along Constitutional constructs and change to a tax system that is either Flat or Fair.

We must bring our military home from policing the rest of the world. I’m sure you’ve noticed the rest of the world really doesn’t appreciate our efforts.

Screw ‘em.

We can launch the Third Industrial Revolution without the rest of the world. We’ve had the technology for thirty years. Then laugh hysterically watching other nations try to catch up from their failed experiment in the socialist utopia known as ‘Globalism’.

Love it! and is exactly right, Obama did not take power in a military coup, a death of a president or a revolution. It was your effeminate, middle manager, neutered neighbor which elected this guy. The same type which shop at the grocery store with those stupid hemp recycle bags that it takes 9 more minutes to bag his groceries. The same guy who Facebooks and plays the games! The guy who only let's his kids Brenden and Hannah play soccer with and then only with helmets on. The guy who complains at Cheescake Factory and throws a hissy like a women because his dill pickle was not on the burger. The hopeless dolt who wears those stupid Ed Hardy T-shits and has a tatoo and tries to remain tragically hip at 45. The guy who has female "friends", which he gossips with at work like he also has a vagina. Your basic married and gay types, they elected Odumbo, the blacks, secualar Jews, barrio hispanics, college kids, they will always be stuck on stupid and those chasttle can't be depended on to do anything productive or halfway intelligent, most of them should be bashed on the head like baby seals and fed into a power plant.../Johnathan Swiftian sarcasm there

I wish I was as optimistic as you are. Socialism and the entitlement mentality has so infiltrated our culture and the body politic that I am not sure how to cure the patient without killing it.

Unfortunately, 52% blame the economic problems on George W. Bush.

When Pelosi/Reid came to power in January 2007 (after the Democrats sweeped both houses of Congress in the 2006 elections), the unemployment rate was 4.6%.

Therefore, Pelosi/Reid inherited 4.6% unemployment and more than doubled it during their majority.

Don't forget that number.

It's good to have when debating liberals, even if most won't bother to acknowledge the facts.

In fact, you may even wish to show them this link, which is from the official US Department of Labor website (and shows the 4.6% figure): http://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2007/feb/wk1/art02.htm

If Obama’s re-elected, then we’re done for. I am working to make sure that won’t happen.

I am retired and live in a semi-rural area near a college town. And what you say is so true. You should see the looks on the faces of the metrosexuals in the grocery store parking lot as they are loading up their volvos and subarus and I drive up and park my politically incorrect gas-guzzling Shelby GT500 with US Marine Corps specialty license plates and step out sporting a fresh high and tight regulation hair cut. If they only knew I was also a CCW holder and packing heat, they would faint dead away.

The biggest problem with America’s future is its people. The country is much different demographically than where it was in 1980...and heading in a worse direction. It’s going to be darn near impossible to turn this ship around. Over half the population pays no taxes...the silent majority is now the silent minority.

I don’t disagree with part of your post. However some things left to Human Nature will fix themselves. Nature abhors a vacuum, and this is the vacuous administration in the history of the country.
America yearns for strong leadership, and when one of our candidates shines with the leadership qualities we know they have the American voter will gravitate towards them.
I think we have the strongest “potential” field of candidates we’ve had in decades. Palin, Bachman, West, Walker, even Trump, who is certainly not my dream candidate, but is head and shoulders above Obozo, the establishment Rinos the media keeps trying to shove down our throat, and is blasting away successfully at the Dems.
I have optimism for the upcoming election, and I know how hard we’re going to have to work for it.

I wish I could be enthusiastic about the future, but it’s hard to find reason for optomism. The TEA Party and the Homeschooling movement are the only hopeful signs I can see.

As it is, I wonder if the damage that's been inflicted can be remedied or reversed?
