I think they are pissed off about the medicare portion of the bill more than anything else. They are saying that you get a lifetime 7 grand for medical under medicare and that is it. The rest is on your own dime. Now I am for cutting budgets of course but how is a person supposed to pay for a 100 thousand dollar operation for 7 grand.....insurance will not accept you over 65 which is why people go on medicare. All Ryan has to do is explain this a bit better and the town halls will go away.
The Democrats planned on doing these kinds of disruptions at the Town Hall meetings held by Republicans.
This is not surprise here, except that Tea Party people weren’t there to confront the crazies.
Medicare - which you and I have paid into all of our lives, on top of SS, and which we still continue to pay for even while we are receiving SS - is a lousy payer from any point of view. It doesn’t pay doctors enough and an increasing number of them are refusing it; at the same time, it has such a huge deductible (aka, the “gap”) that most people get very little coverage out of it that they are not already paying for in some other way. As somebody said, what other “insurance” program is so bad that you have to buy supplemental insurance to pay for what it is supposedly insuring?
Ryan has got to make the point that the current program isn’t working, it’s an expensive rip-off that does not pay for what people really need, and the new program actually would provide better benefits. It is not a lifetime “$7,000,” and I can’t imagine who “they” are that are saying this.
Per posts 27 and 29 in this thread, I think they are community agitators obeying orders.
“insurance will not accept you over 65 which is why people go on medicare.”
It was set up that way. Personally I’ll die in my backyard before I’ll ask for any Medicare/Medicaid help.
