Never been to his shop, just chatted with him at Ron’s etc...

Even though he uses canes to walk now, he’s still fiesty. He made the news by drawing down on some punk who threatened to kill his dogs. Kind must have thought he was an easy mark.

Damn.... glad he’s gettin along. That was great for media to put out there. Old doesn’t mean easy mark by any means....:o)

Surprised he didn’t shoot the punk.

Stay safe Slim !

Got a chance to look and that is some nice shade tree ‘smithin’. Have a similar Swede that works very well, except I can put it back how I found it.

Good for you!

I have a 1942 Husky Model-38 Swede (6.5x55) in near pristine condition, and will be kept so. That baby is super accurate with J-word, but not so much with cast. With that particular fast twist, seems cast boolit velocity has to be kept down around 16-1700 fps.

Yep, that is it. I found a second stok and trimmed to the rear barrel band, then mounted a 2x handgun scope in a B-Square mount in place of the rear sight. Shoots my 140 Partition handloads under 2” when I do my part. Very fast taget acquisition with that scope setup. Of course, none of the modifications are permanant and it can look just like the picture again in about 30 minutes along with the correct bayonet. Increadably well made rifles. The 6.5x55 performs much better than paper ballistics would suggest with very mild recoil.

You ever see a REALLY good competitive shooter with a bolt gun?

Depends on how you define *competitive.*

The fella in the civvie jacket, tie and hat is Alvin York. He was thought to be pretty good with a bolt gun, such as the '03 Springfield he's holding in the photo.

Indeed he was. I was referring to rate of fire and that 20 rounds in 20 seconds necessitated a semi-auto. I think there are some bolt gun guys who could get off 20 rounds in 20 seconds with a bolt gun. Most people today think that it isn’t possible because they’re used to dealing with really crappy bolt guns.

I think I still can manage it- aimed shots, of course- with a SMLE or #4 Lee-Enfield, or my old reworked 7.62 NATO L42A1.

I had some folks nosing into the Warren Commission ask me to try out the claim that Oswald fired three shots in Dallas in less than six seconds [or 8.4 seconds, if you go by the audio tape evidence from the House Committee on Assassinations.] By way of refuting the claim that such shooting was *impossible,* I repeatedly ran the course with three shots/three hits at 4-5 seconds, using an Enfield. It's actually pretty easy, given that the first shot missed, and may have served only as an audio signal that the ball had begun.

I knew, of course, that those in attendence would carp about using the *wrong* rifle. So for the last five tries, I used a Carcano and got off three rounds in five seconds, with the first shot being a miss. It's not too hard if you've dry-fired the rifle a bit- if you use the scope for the second shot and the iron sights for the last one.

The hard part about getting 20 hits [not just 20 shots] in 20 seconds is the reload, easier with the Enfield due to the 10-round magazine and reloading via 5-round stripper clips/ chargers. But I know one fella with a Steyer SSG who comes pretty close doing a magazine change with two 10-round mags.

Take off the stock and a little off the barrel and you have Han Solo’s blaster....

It's not a bad platform...

I still want a Noreen in either .416 Barrett or .50 BMG match.
