MOUNT JUILET, Tenn. -- Some emergency telephone calls are raising questions about a local law enforcement agency. Did it turn a "deaf ear" to protect one of its own?
The 911 calls were made by a wife, worried that her husband, a lieutenant with the Wilson County Sheriff's Department, was trying to kill her, but she says her suspicions weren't taken seriously.
John Patrick Edwards was the lieutenant in charge of the narcotics division up until recently when he was charged with theft and selling information about a federal drug investigation.
On March 13th, Edwards's wife, Patricia, told a 911 operator, "This officer said he doesn't see any marks on me, so he can't make him leave. He and John are friends. They are in the house talking. I can't get a word in edgewise."
Patricia called 911 because she said she believed her husband was trying to kill her. She told officers that day that she thought Edwards put something in her drink and that he was trying to poison her.

Last week, in a federal hearing related to Edwards' drug case, all this came up again. The 911 calls were played and an FBI agent testified that John Edwards had asked a business partner to murder his wife.

Nice sexist title there...
Fascism, thy name is Sheriff.
All I can say is, there is always another agency. It is one of our vaunted SOP’s that any involvement of one of our own officers has to be dispatched to another agency for handling. We’re city pd, so if we have a situation big or small with one of our officers we immediately turn everything over to the Sheriff’s Dept or even the State Police.
So when Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe told Channel 4 that he felt his officers “treated that call like any other call.” That tells me right there that something fishy is going on. this Sheriff should have instead said, “We turned over all calls for service to the State Police”.
Yet another story that gives more bad press to those of us in law enforcement that are not corrupt or “old school”.
My wife claims Im boring her to death. I guess I should cover my tracks better.
A corrupt narcotics officer? I don't believe it!
sexist title?
Also, the Chicken Nugget 911 Dialers have cried wolf so many times that 911 is now nearly useless for its intended use (actual emergency).
“Two Supreme Court cases (at least) have confirmed: the police have NO DUTY to protect any particular citizen. The only one who can protect you is YOU. “
True, but they have a duty to arrest you for defending yourself (in many cases)
The other agency is still the best procedure. Also where I live if our agency is that other agency they dispatch a supervisor along with an investigating officer.
Another isolated incident...
