This year's May Day rally is expected to draw fewer immigrant rights activists to downtown Los Angeles than in past years, but police said they would be prepared for any problems that might occur.
Organizers said the demonstration could draw more than 50,000 people, but permits sought for the march estimate a crowd of about 10,000.
Whatever the turnout, police said, they would be ready with a significant deployment of officers.
As in the past, the annual immigrant and labor rights march is seen as a way to rally public support for federal legislation that would legalize the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants.

Some F-4s with napalm would add a nice touch.
Bring on the hickory shampoos!
Even a single rumor that “Napolitano is planning to arrest the mob and throw out every illegal there”, which is of course ludicrous on its surface, would still probably half again the number of participants.
Foreign invaders are not entitled to the word immigrant, only people who came here legally
Don’t forget the front end loaders and dump trucks to take away the debris.
May Day Ping!
Nahh, just arm all the PD with cans of roach spray.
Whiney (and mostly illegal) collectivists alert!
I like the 106 recoilless, myself. With that .50 cal spotting rifle atop it. You gotta love the message it sends: if you don’t like this, you damn sure ain’t gonna like what’s coming NEXT!!!
I believe they made a bee-hive round for the 106. Now, that would break up a riot!
Indeed it would. Or Ontos. You recall that, don’t you? It was exclusively ours, though. Had SIX 106s mounted externally. You loaded it Sunday and shot the rest of the week. VERY light armor and gasoline powered but quite innovative!
Yes, I remember building a plastic model or the Ontos. I believe the USMC had them.
We still have Ontos on display down at 29Palms. I would imagine that there arr a bunch of them in some warehouse somewhere, too, just gathering dust. I’d LOVE to own a few!
