I started out with an 8000 watt, it was overkill and way too loud. Exchanged it for a 6500 watt Honda Inverter. Night and day noise level, barely louder than standing next to my Suburban idling.

This is probable more than we needed, but the mid-range generators available were Troy-Built and I didn't want to go that direction.
