NASA abruptly called off space shuttle Endeavour's final launch Friday because of a puzzling heater failure in a critical power unit, disappointing huge crowds converging on the area for the afternoon liftoff. President Barack Obama and his family were planning to watch Endeavour blast off. It would have been the first time in NASA history that a sitting president and his family witnessed a launch. Already at Cape Canaveral for the liftoff was wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, wife of the shuttle's commander.

O-bummer! ...eat your heart out bammy.

Your payback for dissing Houston (aka “Space City”) out of one of the shuttles...

And single-handedly dismantling NASA.

Feels bad for the Giffords though...

NASA has a terrible record on meeting launch date and times.

Maybe it is a good thing they are getting out of the launch business.

Maybe we can now have a lunch unsullied by Dear Leader's presence - although later today he is supposedly going to the launch complex anyway to “view” the shuttle and meet Congresswoman Giffords.

The NASA record, as I read it, has been affected primarily by weather and an overwhelming urge to not publicly screw up - especially right after each public failure.

Rumor has it that a key shuttle part was found to have a forged birth certificate.

It would have been the first time in NASA history that a sitting president and his family witnessed a launch.

What a fitting metaphor to have Obama literally presiding over the decline of the formerly great American manned space program...

All politics aside, it was good that Giffords was well enough to show up to see her husband off.

Obama, destroyer of our space program, had no business being there.

Can’t the shuttle be moved to Kenya and launched from there??

Does this mean that the Obungler won’t be at the next launch attempt which will not require putting the area on lock down like prisons and schools and actually allowing the NASA employs to go outside and watch it?

Already at Cape Canaveral for the liftoff was wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords
How did she get to Cape Canaveral - commercial flight, military, private jet, etc? And who paid for it?
Where is she staying at Cape Canaveral and who's paying for it?

Or maybe when they're mothballed, one can be kept in Kenya, instead of ... oh ... Houston?
