Did he ever register with Selective Service?

I didn't and it turned out to be a potential disaster. I enlisted on my 18th b/day and the recruiter told me not to bother registering for the draft. Four years of active duty later I came home and within 3 months, I was drafted because (the reason stated) I had failed to register.

I had to go to the county draft board and prove to them that I had 4 years active duty under my belt and was currently serving in the inactive reserve.

If memory serves, I didn't receive a DD214 until after that 2 year period of inactive reserve. It was a very long time ago and memory doesn't always "serve"

Man there is all kinsa od patriots in this country they just don’t want to put on a uniform and put their money where their mpoutyh is.

One doesn't have to put on a uniform to be a patriot and I find any such claim to be just as offensive as one who finds it necessary to broadcast to the world about all the medals they received during their alleged military service...

As a side note, following the closing of our Philadelphia stamping plant I had a conversation with my counterpart in their HR department who was a Vietnam vet also. He mentioned the fact that one of their shop employees had been a marine and told many folks that he had been awarded the Navy Cross.

Given the nature of that award I did some investigation myself and was able to obtain his personnel records which included his DD form 214. Turns out the guy was a fraud and I was also able to substantiate this fact via internet military records.

That's why I give no credence to anyone who chooses to boast about their exploits while other military heroes choose to remain anonymous.......

“You know... grades, college records, term papers, health records, out of country political donations.....”

Yes, I know and believe that Obama and all future presidential candidates should release all such records.

That is obviously a forged document and you are working for team Obama to destroy Donald Trump./sarcasm>>>>>

I hope Trump runs because he’ll beat your Bammy Boy by 20 points. Then we’ll be rid of Lisa Jackson (EPA), that idiot Eric Holder, Ken Salazar will be booted so we can open up Gulf drilling and elsewhere. That scumbag ChiCom operative Steven Chu at Energy will get the boot. This can’t happen soon enough.

You can check me out anytime ya want to. And yes I do equate patriotism wit a willingness to serve especially when it is very unpopular. You may find me offensive but I find your attitude towards veterans offensive so screw off.

>>>>>Hey, I had a high draft number too.

So did I.

>>>>>>.... so don't call those of us with high number draft dodgers!

I didn't. Did you read the article or just pop off out of emotion?

"... Donald Trump received 4 student deferments, and one medical deferment, which is in contradiction to a previous quote explaining his draft status: “I actually got lucky because I had a very high draft number. I’ll never forget, that was an amazing period of time in my life.”"

I have known people who received honorable discharges for medical reasons. You’ll find no argument from me there, nor with your other statements.

In general, I am uneasy with politicians making decisions involving armed conflict when they themselves have never been in the military. That is why I wrote what I did.

As to Barak Obama, I believe he doesn’t care a bit about the lives of folks in the military.

Except for maybe the Libertarians, has anyone really decided who they are going to back yet? I like Allen West, but then I liked Duncan Hunter last time around, and neither the media or the GOP gave him chance to win.

Keep pushing,Donald...pave the way for Sarah. All those who think she’s not running are foolish. She is; Donald is not.

Trump is still doing good work to fill the time in between now and when the real Republican candidates will run. Anyone ever think that could be the real reason Trump is doing this???

Our side will launch like Reagan did; 12 months out, no more.

If the leftist press thinks this is going to hurt Trump they are crazy. The young voters absolutely don’t care. Given the choice, most of them would do the same. The left is against all war so they don’t care. It’s a yawn of an issue since Trump is known for his business expertise not military expertise.

Before fellow FReepers get the idea we’re starting a mutual admiration society, there is much to be said for a military background for future political service. It helps to develop team skills, leadership skills and the ability to follow orders. In other words, learning one’s place in a structured setting.
Maybe it’s the recent string of failures and ineptitude of military men aiming for higher office that has colored my opinion vis a vis a military prerequisite. We no longer live in the time of MacArthurs, Pattons, Lees and Washingtons; generals of action not generals of politics.
Barack Obama? I don’t believe he cares about anything beyond his own skin.
Good talking to you.

I graduated in 71, but I was only 17 years old. Good thing too, because my number would have been 13. When I did turn 18 and registered, I got a very high number, and the draft ended shortly thereafter. Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq are Americas newest “tarbabies”. We are spending our grand childrens treasure, and bringing home maimed soldier, and folded flags, for no discernible reason. We lose, not because we lose, but because the goal is to not win.

I read that Trump had a high draft number. Good catch.

A fact not disputed in this piece which says, "Eventually Trump got a high draft number."
