Yesterday, the Chronicle reported that the White House had threatened to kick veteran reporter Carla Marinucci off the press pool because she posted a video of a protest at a San Francisco fundraiser last week.
Today Politico.com ran a story on the controversy that included White House claims that the Chronicle report was "not true."
Let me assure readers that the Chronicle does not run a story of this nature -- plus an editorial and a blog by Phil Bronstein lightly. It may well be the case that Carla remains on the pool -- I can't tell from this statement released by Press Secretary Jay Carney -- but The Chronicle doesn't report that a threat was made without basis.
Here is the Carney statement:
"The San Francisco Chronicle violated the coverage rules that they -- and every other media outlet -- agreed to as part of joining the press pool for that event. If they thought the rules were too restrictive they should have raised that at the beginning. However, no reporters have been banned from covering future presidential events and the White House of course would have no problem including any reporter who follows the rules in pool-only events."
Here is editor Ward Bushee's response.
Sadly, we expected the White House to respond in this manner based on our experiences yesterday. It is not a truthful response. . . .

There are small cracks and breaks developing between the MSM and the WH recently. I think the the media lapdogs thought they would be given carte blanc to do whatever they wanted in return for spinning in favor of Obummer. Apparently they are not aware of how a totalitarian regime operates. Do as they say and that is final.

That Bi&*h knew that she wasn’t supposed to film ANYTHING that makes me look unpopular. She knew the rules going in. Having violated those rules, I forgive her, so long as she accepts Hope and Change from now on. As part of the H&C regimen, she must NEVER again post ANY reports that show me in a bad light, or with graying hair, or swatting a fly with my left hand, or having union thugs visit the White House. And Michele is completely off limits. And the bust of Winston Churchill is still not welcome here.

Frankly, Obama has been treating most of the liberal press like dirty, anyway, since coming into office. But just how much are they going to put up with?

In addition, criminal penalties were set in place for listening to non-German radio stations; by the height of World War II, persons in Nazi Germany or in lands under Nazi occupation could be executed for this act.
Carla Marinucci will get over it. She is one of them.

Since 2008, every time I see a documentary on Nazi Germany and Hitler, I am struck by the similarities between then and now and Hitler and Obama. The strange upbringings BHO and Hitler had, the personalities (and their disorders), etc. I am sure you know as well as I do all the many similarities of that time and this, right down to the media control and control of the people. Scary stuff and we need to get Hussein out of the White House using the ballot box in 2012. And no RINO will do, we need a real American who knows the danger of the path we are on. We cannot have “meet the new boss, same as the old boss” again.

Maybe you’re right here, but this is sounds like a pretty pissy editor at the SF paper. Might have his nose out of joint and not let go of this. It would be something to see if that paper turns on the hopey changey president.
