No, you miss the point. Free people, as long as they don’t misuse them, should be allowed to own and possess any weapon they desire.
Oh sure, it’s a great idea to have every Tom and Jane on the street have a nuclear suitcase weapon, you know as long as they are cool about not misusing it. Maybe a stinger missile or a Anthrax for everyone, too.
