“Bloomberg also makes the false implication that immigrants come here and present to their new communities absolutely no burden”
For the most part legal immigrants do not burden their new community.
Illegal immigrants on the other hand are a tremendous burden.
It depends entirely on where they come from as well as the circumstances and type of legal entry they've made. For instance, there are large populations of Somali immigrants that were permitted entry on a humanitarian basis during the mid to late 90s (and even some later). Those new residents have nearly bankrupted their new home cities and counties.
Of course, I don't need to remind people of the mess the Mariel Bat Lift caused - all legal because of wet foot/dry foot.
Sure, many immigrants are helpful, useful even necessary and productive. But, there are plenty that get admitted that are nothing but dead weight.
Only those who have green cards so they have a right to work. (oops, Michigan isn’t a right-to-work state)
Well, in that case, waive all business permit fees for the first five years and establish a business concierge service that takes care of all of the paperwork. Let Detroit be a great American experiment in free enterprise.
