Sen. Graham questions bin Laden's burial By Jordan Fabian - 05/02/11 11:09 AM ET

A leading Republican senator on Monday question the U.S. government's decision to dispose of Osama bin Laden's body within 24 hours.

Bin Laden, the former al Qaeda leader killed by U.S. forces on Sunday, was buried within 24 hours of his death in accordance with Islamic law. Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), a top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, is skeptical of the decision.

"To me, that didn't make a lot of sense," Graham said during an interview with conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham.

U.S. forces were able to capture bin Laden's body after killing him at a compound outside Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad, but he was buried at sea soon afterward, reportedly to not leave a shrine to him.

The Obama administration is debating whether or not to release photos of bin Laden's body after some have expressed concern that the U.S. needs to do so to prove his death.

But others in the administration have been hesitant due to the graphic nature of the photo.

Michael Scheurer, a former CIA official, said Monday morning that the U.S. will likely release the photos to erase any doubt that he is dead.

When I heard that Osama had a burial at sea , I hoped
it meant they tossed him
out of a helicopter into the ocean.
The details of the reverence accorded to his body-the washing of his body, wrapping him in a clean white shroud
and the reading of Islamic prayers ,
on the USS Carl Vincennes no less-
quite frankly makes me sick.
I see the bodies of Blackwater contractors hung from the bridge in Fallujah.
And the bodies of our Marines dragged through the streets in Mogadishu.
The dead sailors on the USS Cole .
And Daniel Pearl’s beheading.
Above all , I see 5,000 flag draped coffins coming through Dover AFB
and 3,000 dead ,
many never recovered
from the rubble on 9/11 .
Does the White House seriously think this proper and
dignified Islamic burial is
a) appropriate and
b ) going to soothe the savage beasts ?
I can understand a quick and quiet burial , but,
there had to be better options than this.

It would be very easy to announce exactly what happened.

But that isn’t what we are seeing.

Lots of conflicting information...especially as it pertains to the DNA. The couldn’t have had the DNA results by the time OBama announced he was going on television if the helicopter didn’t even lift off until 4:15 pm EST.

And yes dumping the body at sea within 12 hours is suspicious.

yep. Dump the body before any debate or discussion can get started. The sauds or family want the body? Sorry, we don't have it any longer.

Bin Laden now joines Obama’s grandma at the bottom of the sea by quick disposals after death. Obama must like sea burials.

Looks the creep to me. Where are these being released? Thanks

Well, today, they are being released by various British newspapers and various Arab news agencies.

Back on 29 April 2009, the same fake photo was released "by the Middle East online newspaper themedialine.org on 29 April 2009, with a warning from the editor that it was unable to ascertain whether the photo is genuine or not".

See Post 89.

guardian.co.uk, Monday 2 May 2011 12.03 BST .... Osama bin Laden corpse photo is fake ... Image of bloodied man picked up by British newspapers has been circulating online for two years .... It appears the fake picture was initially published by the Middle East online newspaper themedialine.org on 29 April 2009, with a warning from the editor that it was "unable to ascertain whether the photo is genuine or not".

This is why, in the Age of Photoshop, Obama's rush to bury Obama at sea within 24 hours is an extremely bone-headed move.

Obama should have been "buried" in a refrigerated military morgue so that the World's entire press corps could poke, prod and photograph Osama bib Ladin to it's heart's content.

Osama will become the D. B. Cooper of the Islamist terrorist movement and that photo, splashed across British tabloids today, will be the "proof" to the "Arab street" that Osama's death was "faked".

After hunting Osama for so long, I cannot think of a more idiotic decision by Obama than seending the undeniable proof of his death to the bottom of the ocean in less than 24 hours.

I suppose it would have been too uncivilized to run him through a wood chipper and disperse the remains amongst a pig farm

Since he is now FISH FOOD, perhaps the next time CAIR says something really vile, I’m considering buying a tin of sardines, and mailing it to the local CAIR office, with a note..

there had to be better options than this.

Personally I would have leaned more towards having a Rabi chop the boddy into small pieces and dumping the remains into a hog feeding trough... of course all video taped for the enjoyment of every victim's family. But that is just me. My wife wants to nuke back to the stonages every place where they have disrespected our countrymen. I am not sure which would be most appropriate.

I am not a fan of Obama by any way, shape, or form.

I will, however, say this:

Obama had the fortitude to green light this raid into another sovereign nation to get this guy in a town housing an elite Pak army unit and boatloads of retired military in an upscale neighborhood not very far from Islamabad.

The chopper stalled as one of the teams deployed and another had to be sent in to get the team out when the op was finished. Chopper had to be blown up before they left.

Obama did what Clinton could not. After his performance with the pirates off Somalia early in his presidency, I didn’t think he had this in him. He made the call and then watched it go. That’s not nothing.

Anyone who sees a conspiracy in this is nuts.

Conspiracy no. Incompetence yes. If at all possible we should have taken him alive and extracted every bit of informantion that he has.

So let’s get this straight. They performed the operation that killed him, got his DNA, got his body to on of the close sea(s) in the area, got DNA confirmation, gave him proper muslim burial. All in less than 24hrs? Amazing!

Happens on CSI: Miami every week. Duh. /s
