Police arrest dozens of protesters at Honeywell site in south Kansas City (Anti-nuke hippies)

Kansas City police arrested more than 50 protesters this morning as they peacefully marched onto the construction site of the billion-dollar Honeywell plant that will produce parts for nuclear bombs.

Police warned the protesters several times to leave, but they refused. Police said the group waited until news cameras arrived and then walked in an orderly fashion toward the plant’s gates. When company officials closed the gates, the protesters surrounded a truck that was trying to leave the property. Protesters held hands and sang hymns before going peacefully with officers.

Police transported the arrestees to police headquarters using a police bus. Each one was fingerprinted, photographed and booked into the city’s jail for trespassing.

It has always been called 'Bendix', regardless to what company ran the defense department section.

It actually is a large complex housing NATCOMM/FAA,GSA, The Marine Corps Finance/Automated Services/(Bendix/Allied Signal/Honeywell)/IRS. There used to be a hidden underground radio communications center across the street from the west end.

The whole thing is surrounded by high walls, which were constructed after the concern over truck bombs (or the official explanation - to deal with the 200 year river flood)(except there are no walls on the only side where the river is).

However, if they close the gates at the front entrances, protesters can be neither seen nor heard. The only reason they managed to get any attention is because a truck was leaving and they had to open the gate at Honeywell's entrance.

Any other former Honeywellers here?

I worked for the former Sperry Flight Systems Group in Phoenix for about 20 years, 'til I got laid-off a few years back.

The Morons-With-MBAs™ that run that company now have outsourced essentially that entire operation to India, where it's collapsing.

What was arguably the #1 avionics company in the entire world 20 years ago is now about to disappear.
