You are only partially right in my opinion. The Founders envisioned a Congress of transients. Being a Senator was not seen as a life’s work. Can you honestly say that Hatch and Lugar have anything to contribute to resolving our problems? They’ve been there for more that forty years and look where we are today! The Tea Party in Utah kicked Bennett out before the primary and they elected Mike Lee. Lee is a star. Bennett, larded up his friends with our tax dollars last year as he left office. What a class act! Closer to home here in California we now have Harry Reid over in Nevada for another six years! This is the guy who wants to close down the whore houses in Nevada after “taping” them for money to start his sorry assed career. My fear is the Hatches and the Lugars (and the Boehners as well) will co-opt the new fresh faces who don’t know that it can’t be done another way before they get their bearings and some measure of control. But you are entitled to your opinion.

I did not defend either Hatch or Lugar. But, to the extent they ought to be opposed, it should be for their votes and their positions, not their length of service.

"The Tea Party in Utah kicked Bennett out before the primary and they elected Mike Lee.

If the Tea Party had appreciated Bennett's votes and his positions they would not have sought to replace him, no matter how long he had held his seat. The Tea Party wanted him out because they disagreed with him, period.

"Closer to home here in California we now have Harry Reid over in Nevada for another six years!

Again, if a "Harry Reid" in Nevada had been a staunch Conservative Republican with as many years as in office as the real Harry Reid, he would have been worth supporting regardless of his years in office. We all, on our side of thew aisle, oppose the real Harry Reid because of his votes and his positions - which we understand comes, automatically, with being a Liberal Democrat - not because of his years of service.

So no; I will not join a crusade to simply "throw the old guys out". Some of the "old guys" ARE voting how we would like them to. I hope THOSE particular old guys stay in office for many more years.
