Report: White House asked small California paper to remove negative remarks about First Lady

C’mon, no one’s this sensitive to bad press.

Well, almost no one.

In an email to The Daily Caller, Gina Channell-Allen, president of the Pleasanton Weekly in Pleasanton, California, said that her paper “received a call from the White House asking us to take out part of the story because it reflected poorly on the First Lady.”

The story in question was a soft feature about Marine One titled, “Inside Marine One, President Obama’s helicopter,” that ran in the paper on April 20. Pleasanton staffer Amory Gutierrez “didn’t get to ride in ‘Marine One,’” she wrote in her story, “but I did get the VIP tour and took photographs of the otherwise unseen aircraft.”

She also wrote a sentence that the White House thought made FLOTUS look snooty.

“Basically the reporter said that the First Lady didn’t speak to the pilots but acknowledged them by making eye contact,” Allen wrote in her email.

The weirdest part of this, of course, is that the WH ended up increasing the odds that the story would get picked up by bigger media when it decided to contact the publisher to complain. She was probably shocked to find that someone so high up was paying attention to a small paper 3,000 miles away and was itching to tell someone about it. And in fact, according to Daily Caller reporter Mike Riggs, she volunteered the info to the DC after reading their story about the latest White House tantrum over its press coverage.

The WH sure is intent on controlling the media. I bet FR really drives them bonkers.

Intentional. A clumsy attempt to remind everyone of how the Whouse staff was ordered to lower their eyes when PIAPS went by.

Drat. I thought the pilots call sign for Me-chelle was Chewbacca and the newspaper reported it.

Seems rather minor, HOWEVER, since they made such a big deal about Newt’s situation on the aircraft a number of years ago.....fair is fair.

Michelle is like a delicate flower, a sensitive plant. She feels these slights intensely.

I think that is reprehensible. How dare OBAMA think he controls the press in this country. Just who does he think he is? Did he threaten that jihadists would riot in the streets? What’s the fine for running it? You are black-listed?

FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, Mr. President. and please go home now.

if you want know about another huge waste of our Tax dollars it is in the publicity information section of each bureau in the US govt. Possibly in the thousands of sections of government that want to know about any mention of their names of about members of their groups. I worked for the Bureau of Prisons and each day the Bureau got a copy of all of the previous days news articles compiled in offices all over the country and sent to the main office printed and compiled with index anywhere it referred to any aspect of future prisoners staff interaction or news these were at times up to 60 pages each day sent out to the senior staff to refer to.

Hmmmm ... and that is after editing. Suppose the first draft said "... that the First Lady didn’t speak to the pilots but acknowledged them by making eye contact glaring at them"?

How about instead of white-washing the press, the WH instead tries a little behavior modification? Say hello, Michelle, ask about their kids. Thank them for a nice flight.

I’m sure the attitude of the pilots of that helicopter have mutual feelings.

To them, they’re hauling freight, and don’t give a smelly Obama whether or not the piece of wifely excrement in the back even breathes.
