Joe Biden Opens His Mouth About US Navy SEALs

Since President Barack Obama announced that “a small team of Americans” had killed Osama bin Laden, US government officials have carefully stuck to the line that they will not talk about which units were involved.

Obama did not say it was the SEALs. In numerous television appearances, Obama’s counter-terrorism chief John Brennan didn’t and his deputy national security adviser Denis McDonough didn’t. Despite the numerous news reports that named the SEALs, none of the anonymous briefers from the CIA and Pentagon would confirm it.

Here’s a typical response to a question about the SEALs from a senior defence official in a Pentagon briefing on Monday:

QUESTION: Can I ask you, can you confirm that it was a (Navy) SEAL team? And was this a specially designated team that had been practising or reviewing intelligence for a while and they were the unit of choice?

SENIOR DEFENCE OFFICIAL: Not going to comment on units or numbers.

But here’s what the legendarily verbose and loose-lipped Vice President Joe Biden said at a dinner at Washington’s Ritz Carlton Hotel last night to mark the 50th anniversary of the Atlantic Council:

The Navy SEALs "UBL mission accomplished" covert squad that officially does not exist, has now received world wide attention as the "Navy SEAL Team 6".

There is a reason they 'do not exist', if you have read any of the Vince Flynn, David Baldacci, Ted Bell or like novels--if one's cover is blown in any way, makes the team member; as well as the entire team more vulnerable, their family vulnerable, their operations "in and out" more vulnerable to failure from their enemies. And let us not forget politicians with an axe to grind or specific political agenda or aspirations, a golden opportunity to stick their nose in deeper where it is not wanted. Those that call for a picture of the SEALs could be working for the enemy, or just naive and plain ignorant to what covert really means. Some investigative journalists also want to make a name for themselves regardless of any consequences to national security or injury to others, perhaps like WikiLeak founder, Julian Assange.

What if the Vice President was never given the authorization to disclose the SEALs identity? These bravest and best elite group are not in this war to receive public acclamation. Even though the Navy SEALs are portrayed in Playstation SOCOM 4 video games in covert missions, this heroic group is in this fight to keep America and her citizens safe from our enemies domestic and abroad.

Since the SEALs team 6 has been exposed, cries for more information on this covert group and their personal identification has continued to open up new questions, all expected to be answered immediately by the Administration.

Did Joe Biden fall into another more serious "Stand Up Chuck Moment" misstep and place these now famous SEALs in a formidable prospect of personal danger? Sometimes we don't need to know how it is done, others may disagree; but I would side with just do what it takes to keep Americans safe.

Has Biden become a Leper [lepra] for this Administration.

..... Or is this just nothing at all.

Added note: I will always remember I read it HERE FIRST ON FreeRepublic right after its top of the page breaking post-from the famous RUMMY TWEET posted by the Young Rummy Aide Who Broke Bin Laden's Bust before FOX NEWS and the President made the alert.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson [new film out] get his info at the same time. Johnson wrote: "Just got word that will shock the world - Land of the free...home of the brave DAMN PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! (sic)"

No SEALs were mentioned.

If any SEAL or member of his family is harmed by this disclosure, then Biden should be impeached.

If you want SOCOM: US Navy SEALs, then you have to go back to the Playstation 2. SOCOM 4 is known as “Special Forces” outside the US, whereas it was still sold as US Navy SEALs internationally from 2002 to 2006.

Besides, the older ones play better than SOCOM 4; I tried the beta and it was horrible.

SOCOM 4 is a NATO team.

Then there’s Dianne Feinstein, chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who announced the OBL hit to a gathering of liberal swells long before BO took the air.

Yes but was all in that 10:30 timeframe. However, the SEALs were not mentioned til Biden that I am aware of..perhaps another FReeper knows otherwise.

Would have thought the President would have mentioned them at his first announcement if it was meant to be revealed--not by Biden at some dinner where you see him whispering with the ever-graying John F. Kerry.

The SEALs deserve this victory but did they wish to be revealed at this time?

Why is the young wife kept by the Pakistanians and why were others in the compound sent back to Yemen?

I understand intelligence was taken from computers etc.--the courier brother making that call a crucial leak to UBL

I know the mission was to capture, destroy the target and get out safe. They could have killed the wife, but determined to shoot her in the leg when she ran to them in protection of her husband. She was still a child from Yemen in the Western world way of thinking when given to him as a gift as his wife.

Oh forgot: All gather now in group for a photo opt, smile--we have all the time in the world... sarcasm on!!!

And am more concerned about the safety of these helicopters being used by our troops for future missions. Not a good safety record for the SEALs. I am glad no lives were lost.

I agree no matter, if it was just plain Biden stupidity. That is why I am against any pictures that can leak backgrounds, any identities, locations, leaks to the press on any level and viewed around the world--and the politicians that call for a video/photo detail of any kind.. I consider reckless at this time. There is much an enemy can pull from a photograph in recognition that our untrained eye cannot.

I mean even families, associates of these men and women can be put in jeopardy.

This story really opened up a real bad "Can of Biden Gaffe ", if it is true.

When in France I was constantly reminded of our global fight on terrorism by the French military dressed in camouflage that is very visible around all the monuments, mass transportation etc, always moving, always just eyes sweeping their look, encircles a group of middle eastern young men at a picnic table then move on and always "ready". Came back to the US an International Airport NY and saw one overweight cop with a gun hidden under his roll of stomach on his belt and a policewoman with him about 5' high. We made comment of such in comparison of visibility [that was 2 years ago].

I got it, only played a couple of days till PSN got hacked, it’s pretty good and will be even better when they add party system and fix camera. just make sure you play classic mode
