A raid reconstructed: Highly rehearsed, Team Six finds itself improvising in bin Laden's lair

WASHINGTON - So much could have gone wrong as SEAL Team Six swept over Pakistan's dark landscape, dropped down ropes into a compound lined by wall after wall, exchanged gunfire and confronted "Geronimo" face to face. The vital things went right.

Just about every contingency the 25 commandos trained for came at them, rapidly, chaotically and dangerously, in their lunge for Osama bin Laden.

They had acted on the best intelligence the U.S. had ever had on bin Laden's whereabouts since he slipped away in the mountains of Tora Bora just under a decade ago. But it was guesswork, too, with the commandos' lives, a president's reputation and a nation's prestige riding on the outcome.

Was the man once seen pacing the compound's courtyard really bin Laden, as it appeared to American eyes? That was just one unknown.

wait.. the Star and sickle posted that?

I give credit to the military and the boots on the ground. Obama, who may, or may not have willing ok’d it had the easy job.

It was obvious by the photo from the situation room Obama was NOT in control there any more than the girl in the back wishing she had a chair to stand on to watch.

This one makes more sense, the SEALS egressed to the carrier and not back into Afghanistan. Which was what the media was reporting initially.

Yeah.. The staged picture.

Nothing about the CIC (Coward In Chief) is real.

“In short, the U.S. had no direct evidence that bin Laden would be there during the assault — or indeed had ever been there.”

And we still don’t.

Panetta just came out and said that there was a video blackout from the team’s helmets for 25 minutes while the team was on the ground...I can’t help but ask myself what they were watching when the picture snapped. Hillary looked like she wanted to reguritate...so what was she watching?

Just wondering: Why would Panetta be commanding the military?

It’s like group practice for a Classical music concert. Miss a few notes, though, and soon you’re all playing Jazz!

That was just one of the split-second decisions the SEALs had to make in the lair of al-Qaida's leader.

Gunfire erupted, as the 25 commandos on the ground surely had expected and might even have started.

But the compound was also populated with more than two dozen children and women, according to the U.S. The raiders faced life-and-death calls — their own lives and those of the compound's inhabitants — about who was lethal and who was just in their way. That line was not obvious. The SEALs went in with the assumption that some of those they encountered might be wearing explosive suicide vests.

Let me rewrite this media “report” for when a Republican is in charge:

The SEAL commandos charged into Osama’s pleasant villa like queers at a rave party storming the dance floor. One of them kicked aside a child’s tricycle. One ripped down clean laundry fluttering gently from a line in the backyard. Another kicked a puppy.

They shot first and asked questions later, firing at will using black-weaponry assault rifles equipped with infrared laser spectra-sights and explosive fragmentary ceramic 90cm ammunition that discharged nails, paper cuts (the really wicked kind that make a noise) and syphilis across any human flesh it encountered. Each commando was equipped with multiple 30-round clips similar to those used by Jared Loughner during his heinous, vicious, Republican-induced attack on the sainted Gabby Giffords.

A young Pakistani man, recently engaged to a young woman he had known since childhood, laid down his weapon and begged for his life, yet received a brutal blow to the head before a commando stood over him and emptied an entire 30-round clip into his skull. It became obvious they weren’t there to take any prisoners.

General Eisenhower said something like, "In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable."

And General Rommel averred that "No plan survives contact with the enemy."

Since Zero is not going to release the photos or video of this raid, why risk the lives of the SEALs rather than just bombing bin laden’s dump, or using a predator when bin laden was outside?

In the oft seen picture they are watching a CIA summary of the raid, not real-time feed, but close to it. They have said as much.

Most of the Operators and Seals would have had video as would the overhead monitoring aircraft. If they are now claiming there is a big gap in all that footage, I can only speculate that they have something they want to deny. If I want to guess,, I would say they didn’t kill him — Obama doesn’t want to admit that Bin Laden had his own security off him to not be taken or killed by us.

Obama failed is my opinion, but I am glad Bin Laden is no longer alive and free.

“Just wondering: Why would Panetta be commanding the military?”

Because Obozo’s incompetent. It's clear he needed a lot of hand holding and this happened in spite of him and not because of him. His only popular success will be because of Bush policy, much of which he opposed.

He knows it deep down too. He knows.
