WASHINGTON (AFP) - A Congressional panel released a report that alleges that Iran's elite Al-Quds force offers support to Al-Qaeda, adding a new dimension to the militant threat to the United States.

In its report to the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus, the strategic advisory firm Kronos highlighted what it says are increasingly strong links between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps force and Al-Qaeda.

The report was released by the caucus after US troops killed Osama bin Laden in a raid in Pakistan that raised fresh doubts about Pakistan's willingness or ability to track down Al-Qaeda suspects.

"Iran has quietly forged a strong working relationship with core al-Qaeda?s leaders," said the report's author Michael S. Smith II.

"This relationship has been established to counter American influence in the Middle East and South Asia," according to his report.

"Through it, Iran will likely also help Al-Qaeda mobilize terrorists to carry out attacks against the US and our allies, providing the support required to extend Al-Qaeda's operational reach," the report added.

Iran and Pakistan support Al Quaeda.

Thats almost like saying that the Muslim Brotherhood is taking over Egypt.

It’s almost like saying that Al Quaeda is behind the problems of Libya.

It’s as plain as the hole in Bin Laden’s head.

We knew this during the Bush 43 admin when EFPs and other types of ordnance began to show up in Iraq and later, Afghanistan. It was considered unlikely by some, due to the Shia/Sunni split. However, Iran is willing to support those interested in pushing American influence out of the region. They'll deal with the Sunnis later.

All anyone needs to do is look at the big picture and refer to history. For instance, the Axis powers (specifically Germany and Japan), had they prevailed, would have certainly clashed in the post-war years. We knew what Russia and Stalin were about, yet we partnered with them to defeat Nazi Germany. Caused us nothing but headaches for the next half century.....and I still don't think they're entirely finished.

“We knew this during the Bush 43 admin... “

Yes, and before that. At the very least we knew that the regime gave safe passage thru Iran to some of the 9/11 terrorists. So, we’ve known for a while.
But people forget, so it’s good to keep reminding people.

As in Colombia the hard drives, DVDs, CDs and thumb drives will fill in many of the gaps and will confirm what we thought we already knew.
