Brian Williams has dreamed of working in the solar field ever since he first heard about it in the 1970s. So when a new green job training program arrived in his hometown of Ocala, Fla., Williams, now 53, signed up immediately.

The program – one of many around the country -- is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and geared toward helping unemployed workers, low-income individuals, high school dropouts or people with criminal records.

When he joined one year ago, Williams was unemployed. During his training at Workforce Connection, a non-profit organization in Ocala, he learned basic skills, such as job interviewing, and more advanced ones, such as solar installation.

Well they would exist if there was a democrat program to make them.

Just like the ethanol jobs/plants that existed until the money ran out.

Demand and markets be damned.

Classic! The liberals love to caricature Conservatives as knuckle dragging, myopic, cavemen with no intellectual depth. Doncha love what all the Grad Students, College Professors, stained boxer Bloggers, TV pundits and ex-hippies have done to the economy. They are so brilliant, smartest people that have ever lived, the new Hellenistic Age of Great Thought and Philosophy is upon us /sarc. What we have said is true all along, Liberals are generally mentally ill, narcissists who really don’t have any depth of thought or any intellectual moorings. I mean go over to DU, half the idiots over there are under 28 and have as there avatar a video game character. They read the ramblings of Ginsgerg or Gore Vidal and that makes them “Deep” and “Thoughtful”. One of the Prerequisites to being in the Liberal Illuminati is group-think and slavish adherence to failed ideas , any idea which is deemed contrary to free thought, free Enterprise or adherence to a strict code of G*d centered morality. It’s really that simple and what makes them by definition simpletons.

Liberals ‘feel’, Consevatives ‘think’.
Logic and reason are not a hallmark of liberalism.
Recycling Failed ideas is nothing new for them, since history began at Starbucks with this morning’s latte.........

It’s normal and has been going on for decades. The government is always 10 years behind in employment issues.

Well said. It’s like training to defend against a space alien invasion...which is more possible than this fictitious nonsense called “green jobs”.

Running of the Bull: U.S. “Green Jobs” Rhetoric Runs Smack Dab Into Hard Lessons From Spain

* The U.S. can expect 2.2 jobs to be destroyed for every 1 renewable job financed by the government.
* Only 1 in 10 of the jobs actually created through green investment is permanent.
* Since 2000, Spain has spent €571,138 ($753,778) to create each “green job,” including subsidies of more than €1 million ($1,319,783) per wind industry job. Those programs resulted in the destruction of nearly 113,000 jobs elsewhere in the economy.
* Each “green” megawatt installed destroyed 5.39 jobs in non-energy sectors of the Spanish economy.
* The total over-cost—the amount paid over the cost that would result from buying the electricity generated by the renewable power plants at market prices—between 2000 and 2008 amounts to 7,918.54 million Euros ($10 billion).
* The total subsidy spent and committed to these three renewable sources amounts to €28,671 million ($36 billion).
* Consumer energy costs in Spain would have to be increased 31 percent to repay the debt generated by the green jobs subsidies.
