This is great news for Hoosiers, for those who home school they might be able to afford a good private school now instead of refusing to send them to public schools.
"The actual value of the vouchers is based on a sliding scale and is less than the amount of tax money a public school would have received for that student. In the case of students in grades 1 through 8, the maximum value would be $4,500.
But the bill includes a tax deduction of $1,000 for each child in a private school or home school. That will translate into a revenue loss of more than $3 million, according to the nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency."

Great move. Can can Freepers forgive him for caring more about economic issues than “social” issues?

Homeschooling is superior (in results) to private schools anyway.
Now, would these vouchers be applicable to homeschooling expenses?

This IS a social issue.
A big fat social issue of great import.
Breaking the stranglehold that the government unions and the dems have on the education of our children is THE paramount social issue & act today.
With this we can plan forward.
Without this, nothing

Can can Freepers forgive him for caring more about economic issues than social issues? Last week, he signed a bill de-funding Planned Parenthood in Indiana.

Vouchers from the Government(local, state or Feds) may come w/ Government Strings attached. BE CAREFUL HOMESCHOOLERS when you accept these vouchers.

Any spending that is NOT military spending is ‘social’ spending. What in the world are we spending ourselves into generational debt for even those that survive abortions? There is NOTHING fiscally conservative in social liberalism... ism's always cost producers a percentage of their hard earned money.

Can can Freepers forgive him for caring more about economic issues than social issues? He just signed a bill to defund planned parenthood in IN. He also recently said tax hikes should be on the table for balancing the Federal Budget. Actions do speak louder than words so I'm impressed so far. If he really wanted to raise taxes and not just use it as a bargaining tool than there would be trouble.

Exciting! Given time Indiana will soar over the other states in education. But Indiana must be given a few years for this to come to fruition. It can't be done overnight. If this program can be correlated with the improvement in education, then other states will simply have to follow their lead. That's the way federalism is supposed to function. That's the intent of the founders. Congratulations to Indiana.
I'm sure the teachers unions and the NEA will hate this- but that's a good thing.

Sure we can forgive. But the dimunitive Daniels will NEVER win the GOP nomination.

I don’t believe so, I think it has to be something other than home school but they will at least get some kind of tax break for it.
Not sure about that though, it would be great if they got to keep the $4500 but I doubt it.

You don’t understand the core thinking though. If they did raise taxes, while making huge cuts at the same time and proving to people the extra taxes are going directly towards paying off the debt then you will not hear nearly the outcry as otherwise.

Beware of a rino Governor who "signs" conservative legislation as a set up for a fake right to the republican nomination. For they will become a rino again in the WH. Rovian Rule #1.

He also recently said tax hikes should be on the table for balancing the Federal Budget If he means getting rid of some of the corporate welfare loopholes, then I'm all for it.

He also surrendered to Obama on foreign policy. Don't be hyperbolic.
He didn't "surrender"...he just said he wasn't prepared yet to debate.
To: tennmountainman
I don’t hold his height or lack thereof against (don’t want no short people ..). I’m sure some would. What he does and says can offset being short so I don’t agree with you. I’m still studying him. I did sit through a few hrs of youtube videos and this guy is a real person and likable.
My concern has been that he seems to be a one issue guy - budget. So we’ll see. I doubt he has any interest in foreign policy. Neither does obama and anyone could do better than obama on that front.
