Unemployment applications hit eight-month high

WASHINGTON -- The number of people applying for unemployment benefits surged last week to the highest level in eight months, a troubling sign a day ahead of the government's report on April employment.

The Labor Department said Thursday that the 43,000 spike in applications to a seasonally adjusted 474,000 last week was largely the result of unusual factors, including a high number of school systems in New York that closed for spring break.

Still, it marked the third increase in four weeks. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, rose for the fourth straight week to 431,250. Applications have jumped 89,000, or 23 percent, in the past four weeks.

It is always the result of “something”, it seems to never be about what it really is....

The economy sucks and The Administration is making it worse with their policies

This is not the unemployment figure just the number lucky enough to be getting unemployment compensation.

All those that have dropped off the rolls are not counted and all those that were ineligible in the first place are not counted either.

Mistakes hell, Cloward-Pivin in action. Almost 15 percent on food stamps now and dependency on government growing by leaps and bounds. Obama and his Marxists are right on track.

Do teachers get to file unemployment when schools are closed for spring break? You'd think that would be part of their standard "off time". Or are there other workers who aren't as well-treated as school teachers who are unemployed when schools close?

Interesting times we live in. We had that obviously-calculated crash at the end of W's administration. Methinks Obama would like to have this doldrums economy maintained until the second half of 2012. And then, what happens if the banks suddenly cut loose with the money flow, and pump the economy, no matter who artificial it might be?

And then there's the talk of his campaign costing a Billion Dollars. The Great Hard Sell, coupled with the RNC throwing yet another mediocre candidate at us, one who might say, again, "Well you know my opponent isn't such a bad guy, it's okay if you want to vote for him."

Not that I'm cynical, or anything like that.

April 30th.

Of the estimated 14 million people out of work and actively seeking employment, only about 8.5 million are still receiving their unemployment benefits. That translates into approximately 5.5 million people unemployed and NOT receiving any benefits.

I believe that the 99ers now have an extra 6 weeks although in some States that has been cut to four weeks for lack of money.
